Putin to recognise the independence of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine

Over to you Messyrs Biden, Johnson et al.

Their response will, no doubt be something to behold - NOT.

Biden promised the USA that Putin feared him because he would go toe to toe with him.

Some proper fruit cakes in charge of some big countries these days.

Doesn't bode well for mankind.
Who knows, the tories might even stop taking all those Russian donations to the party now.

Strangely, there doesn’t appear to be any footage or photos of Russian or unmarked vehicles entering Ukraine. Or at least not yet anyway.

It does seem to be following the soviet/Russian play book, people mention the annexing of Crimea and that’s valid but this is more akin to their operation in South Ossetia in Georgia 🇬🇪.

Bill Bruder was on the radio last week talking about Russian money in the UK, claiming that his Magnitsky act was designed to do the job of freezing those Russian accounts and property portfolios.
The interesting part was about Putin himself.
Putin, he said does have a lot of money being laundered here, but you will never see his name on any accounts or ownership papers.
Everything is done through proxies.
But according to him the top 5 of these people is known, in fact financial authorities are aware of all those acting for Putin…there is more than these 5
So it remains to be seen now if this corrupt cabal of a government are willing to press that particular button.
Because according to Bruder that would really hurt Putin and open a can of worms about the real influence of Russian money.

This was on sky news at 413am

US News making a big point about the white house not using the term invasion as yet in their briefings press releases.

“A blatant violation of Russias international commitments”

Wasn't there a Biden distinction a couple of weeks back between 'incursion' and 'invasion' - which he had to quickly backtrack on - indicating (I guess) that going into the 2 breakaway republics would not be seen as quite as serious as elsewhere?

They argue that Russian troops were already present in these locations so it’s nothing new in that sense.

If financial sanctions are put in place regarding russian interests in the UK, how would that affect clubs owned by Russian people such as Chelsea(is Everton also owned by Russians)? I honestly don't really understand what happens and what difference it makes to a nation when sanctions are put in place. I'm not really up on politics although I have took more of an interest since COVID started.

That's what spurred Abramovich to get Israeli citizenship and Portuguese citizenship after the events of 2014.

He's now a triple national, and not solely Russian, so he may be able to circumvent many of the issues.

RUSSIA’S FOREIGN MINISTRY SAYS RUSSIA RECOGNISES BREAKAWAY UKRAINIAN REPUBLICS WITHIN BORDERS THAT THEY CURRENTLY CONTROL - IFAX (Via Reuters)

I think 1 of the following will happen

1) Russia will stop with these 'new' regions

2) they will invade the rest of Ukraine and it will be bloody guerrilla warfare... 10 times worse as seen in Afghanistan / Iraq

We know how it goes in our country:

Government caught on the hop about what is really happening on the ground, following weeks of 'we know best' statements (just like Afghanistan)

Lots of blustering soundbites that sound like things cut out of an episode of Frasier "the Russian will feel the steel trap of sanctions if boots land on Ukranian soil" - that sort of nonsense

Opposition, media, commentators, general public will ask the Tories are you going to come down hard on all the ill-gotten funds slushing around London and stuffed in the pockets of vested interests across government that was first encouraged by Cameron and Osbourne following their election. No real answer will be forthcoming.

Russia invades Ukraine. Apologists such as Aaron Banks, Farage, and other right wingers will say well, it was Russian land all along anyway. The hard left will welcome the growth of a new 'bloc' next door to the EU.

Brexit Britain sits idly by as it is compromised on all fronts in response to this (hypocrisy on international law, energy requirements, political capital with other nations, financial interests). We are basically a landing strip for actual US power now.
