Places you ended up living but never thought you would??

2 boyhood places were Everest and Victoria Falls (just looked impossible to get to either as a kid). Now been to Everest Base Camp and been to Victoria Falls, 5 times now (thanks to my wife working over there a while ago)

More recently, Ukraine, Kyiv in particular while there is a war on 😁

These are visiting not living I know, but only ever lived in the NE :(

Teesside, I was brought up in the Land of the PrinceBishops, but a career and a woman dragged me here 40 years ago. Now share my time between Teesside and the Canaries (at the airport now). Never saw that coming.

Yep you have to not mind rain too much to live in Bergen. The summer I was there was a bit rubbish. The weather was fantastic in most places, but often not in Bergen! I hiked in the mountains in July during constant lashing rain.
The Norwegians are a funny breed. They've been brought up watching a lot of English TV so they always comment on our poor weather. I keep telling them it's far better than here and Teesside is one of the driest places in England but they don't get it due to the English obsession of commenting on our weather.

The TV was something I was quite surprised at. Loads of programmes in English with Norwegian subtitles. I planned learning some of the language but could literally speak English anywhere and in most situations.

Yes, that is a major issue for all us English people who work abroad. I worked in Norway about 15 years ago previously. This time I signed up for norwegian lessons when I started and was determined to learn the language. My enthusiasm lasted about 2 months as everybody speaks English. 😁

I even found an English themed pub in the city centre - Three Lions. The places was packed whenever Man United or Liverpool were on TV. The Norwegians loves English football more than we do!

Growing up watching Alan Partridge, it would be Norwich. All the places he talks about never meant much to me but now I recognise everyone and have been to most.

I lived there for 6 years and 2 of my children were born there.

Walsall. Run down but had 3 great years down there.

Lived in a few places. When I was a kid I doubt I thought I’d live in London for 5 years, and Manchester for the past 14 (and still commuting to London most weeks). But I def didn’t think I’d spend a year in Australia.

Mosely, Birmingham.. very friendly the Brummies.
Kemp town, Brighton.. arty, fun.
Totnes, Devon.. beautiful location
Now Bristol.. this will do, so probably my last chapter.

Washington DC and now Chicago. I was actually discussing how unexpected living here is yesterday with another ex-Teessider living here.

@MVBoro we are actually looking at visiting Bermuda at October half term, so I'll pick your brains if we end up booking something!

Never thought I live in Devon, I've been in Exeter 24 years, I love it but I want a change now. Hopefully I end up in Pontevedra province in Galicia, preferably Vigo, If I do move them I might make my UK base for when I come home occasionally either somewhere in East Cleveland or the North Yorkshire Moors.
.

New Zealand, at least not until 20 years ago when we came over for holiday and decided to move here.

Finally took the plunge in 2007.

Bit like Norfolk and a few others on here Ex Forces so lived in a few places around the UK and overseas, mostly down South.

Plymouth and then Arbroath, I wanted to be based in Thirsk when I first joined the forces but was sent to Plymouth and then to Arbroath.
