Payero Tweet

I know its a new country and must be very difficult to transition, but he hasn't exactly busted a gut or shown much promise, apart from a couple of minute cameos. I think we should cut our losses and work with what Wilder wants. He may yet come back to Europe - Spain and do well, but don't think he will have any impact in the Champo with Boro. Looks like a Gibbo/Leo signing.
I’d argue that “busting a gut” is precisely what he was doing at QPR, trying to impress a new manager and coaching staff by going full-blooded. That he injured himself sort of sums his season up. I think he needs coaching, not shipping out. Unless he wants to go home to Argentina, of course.

I'm amazed so many seem to have written him off already, can't say I've really seen sufficient of him to form an opinion.

It's difficult to get into a game coming on for late cameos here and there, so hard to judge him. You're looking to get upto the speed of the game really quickly and often players coming on as a sub in such situations can try a bit too hard, and I think that's partly how he came to injure himself at QPR.

The goal against Cardiff was well taken and that was around the time of his most promising looking spell of form for the club which coincided with him getting the most game time (I'm going off memory here rather than stats so I could be wrong). Some players need a series of consistent starts in matches to bed in and show their worth.

Personally I think with a full pre-season he's got a good chance to stake a claim for a place as he came with a good pedigree. If Wilder (who has seen more than any of us with daily training) thinks differently and moves him on I'd back the manager's judgement, but I'd like to think he'll be given more of a chance next season. Many foreign imports improve in their second season as they become more accustomed to their new environment.

I think it's bad only Sporar and Bamba posted end of season why didn't any of the others especially Tav Fry Mcnair post thanks for the support be back stronger next year or something. Also the silence from Balogun and Connolly accounts shows they didn't enjoy being here

I think it's irrelevant. They're not duty bound to update social media, especially with content that you find acceptable. We have some seriously needy fans....

Agreed. We forget how much football is a confidence game and players need to feel integrated and accepted to be able to express themselves. It must be incredibly hard for a young boy with almost no English to come 12,000 miles or whatever it is, to a strange place like Boro - with managers like Warnock & Wilder. I think Wilder will move him on, but I'm sure the kid's talent will come through at some place.

Players go all over when the season ends, no real surprise he's back in Argentina as its his home!

I was at the Marilnelli game vs Derby when he was outstanding (2nd half anyway). I still can't believe he didn't kick on from that game
He had the talent, but I think it was attitude that let Marinelli down more than anything. He seemed to have the same kind of experience everywhere he played after us, flashes of brilliance then fading out and quietly moving on. I don't think Payero is the same in that way. He seems like more of a grafter than Marinelli ever was.

Don't know if he's in Wilder's plans for next season though. I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved on with a more defensive minded player coming in to offer some competition with Howson (if he stays). I hope that's not the case though, there's definitely a quality player in there if he can avoid the bad luck with injuries and illness that he had this season.

He had Leo here and it’s not like the old days when you were totally isolated

I hope the lad ends up finding what he wants. If he wants to stay with us and Wilder wants him, then fine. If not, we all move on.
