Payero is back, back back!

Gazette article says he's one of 6 players (there were 8 but Bola has now left and Crooks has signed an extension) in the final year of their contract - McNair Fry Akpom Roberts and Howson (who signed a one year deal recently)
Think @shaun71 put a list of them all on here at some stage last season

INTERESTING FACT

'Jogo do bicho' an illigal gambling game that influences a lot of the choices of squad numbers for south American players

Payero chose the number 32 'Camelo' - the Camel 29,30,31,32 - is part of group 8

Yes, though I think there's only 4 we are thinking about extending or selling as Howson was always on a 1-year deal and Roberts has clearly been told to stay for the ACON and put himself in the shop window so he can leave next summer.

Akpom, McNair, Fry and Payero. I can see 3 of them staying and signing extensions. I think we will lose the other one...

Hasn’t shone at Boca but that doesn’t bother me tbh, they are clearly a step or 2 up from the championship.

I always thought he was incredibly talented, with the potential to be a very good player. Obviously didn’t show it last time, a combination of injuries, being a bit lightweight and the wrong managers.

He looks fit now. Also he must surely realise he needs a good season if he wants his next move to be a good one. Hopefully that means he’s motivated.

I’m excited by this. If the club think he should be a part of the squad, I’d trust them and think he could be a big player for us. 🤞🏼

I really hope that he's spent some time in his year away improving his English as it will undoubtedly help him integrate and improve his chances of making the squad. He'll need to get his head right straight away because there will be some serious competition from the new arrivals and only 25 places in the squad. The club are giving him a second chance and if Carrick thinks he will strengthen the squad then he'll stay. If not, then we'll be looking for a sale or loan option.

I watched this lad in a few u/21 games for Argentina before he signed and he clearly had ability. He can play as an 8 or pushed marginally forward as a 10. He is decent with a dead ball, composed, but a little impetuous at times and as we saw has moments of quality. He reminds me of a raw Heine Otto in his style (praise indeed) but raw being the key word. I have no idea if he’ll settle and stay, or whether he will be gone. I do think he will play at a higher level though at some point. I hope he can realise his potential with Boro.

He's not back because we wanted him back, or he wanted to come back, Boca didn't want to sign him, so he has no choice but to return to his employers.
I'm sure Carrick and his backroom staff will access him, if good enough he will stay, if not ,then loaned out for his final year.
It's a big couple of weeks for him and his career.

It will be interesting to hear if he has learned English since he has been back in Argentina.
Think that will show his true intentions / commitment
