Our recruitment- beyond a joke

Its actually fair to say that for a period in the late 90s, we were seen as a 'fashionable club' to some extent. But these things come in waves. We're not now.

I think we were still paying top dollar at that point. I don't think we'd have been too fashionable without it.

If someone was trying to employ you and said "Leave your current company and come and work for me, oh but by the way I'm leaving in 9 months time and the new guy who comes in might not like or believe in you at all". Would make the move or would you go to another company who sell you a 3-4 year project of stability?

To be fair, if it was a three or four year contract and the 9 month boss one was £100k a year and 3 year boss one was £80k a year, I'd go with the money.

Most EFL managers are only 9 bad results away from being sacked at most clubs anyway.

If they base a decision on message boards then yes. How does the Moore decision stack up if it just based on money? We offered more!

MFC are notorious about divulging transfer fees and no one would post what a players wages would be so that is all speculation.

Attracting players to a club in the NE of England who have just avoided relegation and who's prospects for this season aren't particularly great aren't exactly positive selling points are they so no wonder were struggling to get our first choices in.

Its a fair point but any player signing on the premise of a manager 'being there' is taking a huge risk. There are 24 managers in the entire PL and EFL who have served longer than 2 years at their current club.

Yes but that final chat with the manager must play a big part. How many times do you hear a new signing say "the manager has told me his plans for the club and I'm excited to be part of that" or words to that effect? Whether you believe them or not is a different matter.

It's just a thought anyway. If a player was hesitant about signing because they think the manager might get the sack then there would be no transfers at all. I just think our situation is different and certainly can't be helping matters when it comes to a straight choice between clubs.
