Our recruitment- beyond a joke

It's okay saying that the transfer window closes in a couple of months and we have plenty of time, but the season starts in three weeks! Three weeks!!! The team has been weakened, not strengthened. I trust in Warnock but I don't trust in the recruitment set up.

Thought he ingored the recruitment set up and did his own thing. Or not at the moment.

Even if we don’t get anyone else all is not lost because with a bit more time Warnock might be able to turn the shower we have now into the team they bluddy well should be!

If the season started tomorrow:

Stojanovic, Spence, Coulson, Hall, Fry, Howson*, Saville, McNair, Tavernier, Britt, Fletcher

Subs: Pears, Dijksteel, Bola, Wood, Wing, Johnson, Browne

Nice balanced 433 or 532, bit of impact off the bench. Be alright I reckon (y)

Its three and a half weeks away mind, then there's 3 more weeks til the deadline.

So if we believe the media the players we have been in for have gone for:

Moore 1m
Goode 1.5 million
Williams 2.5 million

That tells me that we have a few quid set aside for the right players, those amounts will get us decent champo players. Keep the faith!

I don't really know what you mean by "sell the club"; 90-95% of it is down to money and always has been.
It was easy when we could outbid our competitors.
This. Absolutely this.

Selling the Club isn't a big factor as the area. But It is how much dosh is on the table and then all being equal where are the nearest nightclubs, top restaurants golf courses, airports serving the algarve etc etc This is why Sunderland for example have never been able to attract an abundance of talent. The old order has changed. Brentford are a club more attractive than ourselves.

Its actually fair to say that for a period in the late 90s, we were seen as a 'fashionable club' to some extent. But these things come in waves. We're not now.

With the exception of Moore, do we know for certain whether we were in for any of these so called targets??

Neil is doing a great job, we are a tiny club with no money or food. All those nasty clubs are being mean to Neil who is, again, doing a great job.

We're in a giant game of chicken. Football finances below the Prem face an outlook which is both bleak and uncertain. We know revenues will be down but nobody knows by how much. Transfer fees and player wages will follow. It's a buyers market but sellers haven't adjusted yet. Clubs and players are feeling their way towards this new reality. This will crystallise as we approach deadline day. There's a lot of watching and waiting at the moment; I expect a flurry of activity later in the window than usual.

The worst transfer window we had was under a Monk.
Nobody prior to the 1st game of the season would have been saying what a bad window we have had or that we had wasted our money. That window was a disaster for the club and we are still stuck with players who we paid over the odds for and are vastly overpaid.
If you read moneyball Billie Bean says “It’s not the players you miss out on you worry about it’s the ones you sign!!”
That sums up Boro to a tee, the majority of the players we have signed we would have been better off missing out on - if only somebody had outbid us for Britt, Saville, Flint.
The season does start in 3 weeks but we only play 3 league games before the deadline closes. Plenty of time

I think us not having enough players *may* do us good... in a weird way.... think about when woodgate had loads of injuries we actually performed well during that period because we couldn't change the team as easily

It's an unusual transfer window in more ways than one.
We are seeing a total readjustment of footballing finances on a truly unprecedented scale. Clubs don't know what their attendances are going to be yet, which is the major source of revenue for all those not in receipt of whatdoyoumacallem payments.
And the domestic window closes after the international one.
Those s***ing themselves now had better buckle up. We aren't going to be seeing a flood of new players in August. The vast majority will be made in October. Particularly after the close of the international window when the premier league squads are finalised and we can turn our attention to people like Paddy Roberts. Those on frees will be holding out until the last minute also. They aren't living hand to mouth like many of us and can afford to take their sweet time about it. Some will need to sign early. The majority will hold out to see what they can get.
