North Macedonia v England - 7:45pm KO

It’s put me in a right mood that.

Football is ****ed. the amount of times we are seeing var **** things up now is hard to take
I know, it's bordering on a crisis now, in sporting terms, not an actualy crisis obviously.

I do not understand how people can sit and watch these things back and award the decisions they do, the penalty in our game, the non penalty in the Ukraine game. I think they need to come out and explain the reasoning.

Sterling always performs at tournaments. No one can doubt that. Grealish will always be a ‘bit part player’ for city and England. Sterling can be a main man for Chelsea this season and get himself back in Gareth’s good books
Yesterday's man, Diego. Great in his day but it's gone.

How is he yesterdays man? He’s 28. Still playing well and putting in man of the match performance against the best team in Europe. Literally ran them ragged. He will prove you and others wrong. It’s what he does.

Exactly this mate. Southgate is holding this team back now, I firmly believe it. There are some cracking players we have and they are not performing to the level they should be imho.

We've just qualified with ease with games to spare and finished 6 points clear of the current European champions. We've won more knockout games in the last 3 tournaments than we'd won in the previous 14. We reached our first final in nearly 60 years. We've broken goal scoring records in every tournament Southgate has been manager in. We've beaten more top ten ranked teams in competitive games than any England manager in history.
But yeah Southgate is holding us back because we were a bit lacklustre in two meaningless games after we'd already qualified.
🙄

That’s not to say he’s not holding them back. He has done great work with team culture and getting players to buy into the National Team, but he is not maximising the talent we have for me.

The team has evolved since 2018 playing a 3-5-2 to one that can switch between 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1.

Southgate realised for Russia England needed a shape that allowed them to retain possession. For years England were dreadful at that in tournaments. After being done by Croatia in midfield he then understood the team had to evolve.

4th at the 2018 World Cup, 3rd in the Nations League and 2nd at the European Championship. Not sure what else the man can do for some fans.

Win something I guess?

What's the evidence for that? Two games after we've already qualified? Surely a much better indication of whether Southgate is getting the best from the players would be the Italy game which actually mattered and was against halfway decent opposition and we won very convincingly.

Why can’t he motivate the players in these games, surely he should be able to do that

Not sure how you think he’s yesterdays man. When the likes of Grealish are only a couple of years younger than him. Sterling has been twice the player Grealish has throughout his career. And the stats would back that up too.
He's no longer producing consistently at the top level. Yes he had a good game against City but he's not doing it often enough.

So if we get promoted this season with 2 games to spare, but are a bit crap in our last 2 games you'll be criticising Carrick for not motivating the players and saying he's not getting the best out of the players?

Or why couldn’t Carrick motivate Boro to win once play off qualification was secured last season? If only football was so simple.

Fans don’t travel over 1500 miles to watch their team play. Also, they don’t play teams with the chasm of quality and wages between the England players and the Macedonia players.

That's a poor comparison, you only get minimal competitive football at International level.

Players should be motivated to play for England at anytime.
