New police guidelines on 'reasonable excuse' to go out

I think there should be a total ban on booze and cigs, as in SA. That will stop a lot of unnecessary trips to the shops.

I'm genuinely not looking to get into a daft argument, but, for example, what are you having for tea? Does it entirely comprise of essential items? There are no guidelines on what is deemed essential produce to my knowledge

haha - I’m not looking to get into a daft argument either. I was just putting a view forward.
Just had a beer with some crisps n salsa, now having a gin n toning waiting for onion bhajis to come out of the oven then we will have a few glasses of wine.
Nothing essential - but, my god, I’m glad they are allowed

In which case I think I'm missing your point, one of us is :)

My point is (probably the same as yours) - In a world of ambiguity its best not to pass judgment on those taking a different approach.

Now we all ought to leave this and in 80 mins or so get onto YouTube and watch the wonderful Tallest Man on Earth live stream his latest music

Been for my weekly shop today, noticed the roads were far far busier than they have been. The other half was called into the docs following a phone appointment to have bloods and she also commented on it. I noticed the car park at the bottom of marske woods had half a dozen cars parked there - up till now it was deserted.

Most people on Teesside live close enough to green space to exercise, most of us have pleasant enough walks on our doorstep. There is absolutely no reason to get in a car to do this. Yes, most of us would like to get on the moors or to the coast etc. Once a few start it will garner speed and before you know it we will be back to square one.

As I see it we have just about reached peak, now we need to keep this up, because the tail is going to be longer than the time to peak and there are going to be setbacks.

Most people are making sacrifices, some more than others. I have a very poorly father, I have not been able to see him and am hoping he does not pass during this period. I have been furloughed, my partner now has no income as a self employed hair dresser who has not filed her first year accounts. I am LADA diabetes, I started insulin the day of the lockdown, I am having to manage various issues by phone. I am struggling being home all the time with a toddler who wants my undivided attention from the minute she wakes to going to bed.

BUT if we want to get this over and done with in the shortest time frame and if we want to save the emergency services from unnecessary burden we should be staying close to home and NOT going out for a jolly.

Those “needing” to get in the car for trips out will be the same who hoarded toilet roll and pasta.

Give your heads a wobble.

That’s part of the problem here ‘personally’. And, I agree with people taking personal responsibility.
I don’t like the idea of taking personal responsibility but believing others who follow a different personal responsibility are somehow being irresponsible - subject to social distancing guidelines etc
You can, of course, exercise at home.
Walking to the shops to buy meat, crisps, snacks, biscuits, lottery, booze etc - isn’t necessary either.
Why have you chose to put meat? Just more out of curiosity rather than anything else I suppose

Spot on go-nads. Especially the correlation between the panic buyers and sudden fitness freaks.

Was super busy on my dog walk today.. and the Mrs who works at a GP said the roads were hectic..

As many of you know I don't agree with the lockdown measures as I don't think they are effective.. That said I abide by them, mum is 70 in great health but lives 50 miles away, haven't seen her since Feb. Sis lives in London with my 1 year old nephew haven't seen them since Feb. Haven't been out in the car other than to go shopping. I work from home 37.5 hours a week, train at home and walk the dog.

Yet you have so many people who live close to one another having a jolly old time on furlough seeing friends and family.

Meanwhile you have people like go_nads above who's income is being savaged and is having to deal with so much, I feel for you mate.

It's absolutely ridiculous to have this situation and It's ludicrous that we have to sit in this ineffective halfway house where some of us play by the rules whilst others don't and no extreme lockdown is not the answer.

The argument is getting a bit silly when we are discussing the essential merits of a bag of crisps. live and let live for christs sake folks. It is not a crime to walk to your corner shop and buy some snacks. Sone want to go for a drive to walk on the moors, some want to go buy beer and others like a packet of digestives. All are within the confines of the allowed regulations.

If we are talking about the absoloute meaning of essential then beer, snacks and a walk on the moors are not essential.

I walked the 15 feet to the garage to buy a packet of cigarettes, hardly essential in sustaining life.

Another 'wow just wow' moment, sorry. Exercising at home is not great or possibly not possible for some, surely? Oh, and no mental health response was disappointing. Lots do not have the luxury of a car like us middle class entitled folk. Walking on a pavement is permitted in North Yorkshire still and i am sure it is all over the uk. Driving is rarely essential for exercise in my experience, my Dr friend agrees too tbf, but lets just disagree. Don't want an argument.

Is this bickering really necessary. Whilst you are arguing about your right to drive for a nice walk, or buy snacks. It is, after all, essential for mental health right? Think about the doctors and nurses working an 80 hour week, sleeping in the hospital so they don't take the virus home. Think about them working in a virus laden environment with inadequate PPE. Spare just a moment for the morgue workers, wheeling bodies to the morgue. Now chit chat about a nice walk being essential for your wellbeing.

To many people on here like Spanishman believe they are right and everyone should do as he says. There are guidelines and 99% of people will use their brains and be responsible when using them. I asked the question the other day why would it be wrong to drive a short distance to exercise and I got all the know it alls telling me off simply for asking. I got told to do f*cking star jumps in my living room. I think the people preaching are the ones who don't have dogs or exercise anyways. Or they are people who don't have young children who need to get out for fresh air. I'll continue to use those guidelines and take my dog out and young ones out and use my brain and not listen to d*ck heads like Spanishman. I'll also now drive to a secluded spot if I like.

Go Fluffy go - I just love the solidarity with the healthcare proffessionals trying to save as many lives as they can, so you stay healthy to enjoy your nice little walk.

To be perfectly frank, your last post sounds like it came from a spoilt teenager.
