New police guidelines on 'reasonable excuse' to go out

The driving issue seems mad to me. The more cars making non essential journeys will lead to a greater risk of accidents that can end up tieing up emergency services, hospital staff etc. The problem for me is selfishness of people. It gives carte blanche for anyone to just go out for a drive to relieve boredom as how will the police know you haven’t been exercising somewhere nearby? People might end up flocking to the same old beauty spots creating social distancing issues in rural areas instead. The more people move around from area to area, the more risk is created. I think it is barmy.

I can see the police being pretty fed up as well, as it makes their job much harder as people will simply lie. Only last weekend the authorities pleaded with people to Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save lives. Time will tell, but I suspect we will see a significant upturn in the use of vehicles now.
I haven't driven a car for over 5 weeks. How many drive to a food shop who could walk?

At last common sense. I posted about this weeks ago and got dogs abuse back from some, specifically - RandySavage, Spannishman and Malaguena, who resorted to abuse rather than trying to argue their case, and despite the fact that I'd clearly stated that I was sticking to the guidelines but didn't agree with them.

In fact Snowflakeman got so upset with Fluffycarpet and myself that he hit the "Ignore" ......:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

So this latest clarification kind of makes you sad individuals look like fools now doesn't it. I won't wait for an apology

From Thread "Those People Sat in Parks Today"

Fluffy and Konrad just reinforcing the point - "I know best and I'll do what I want" - Malaguena

Why don't you understand the risk of driving somewhere remote for a 'walk'?
Are you one of the 'im alright jack' folks? - RandySavage

And these idiots will be the first to complain when an italian style lockdown is brought in once Boris is back running the daily press conferences. - RandySavage

I have and have come to the conclusion that you can't reason with stupidity. Of course these fools know better don't they until they are begging for oxygen on a side ward somewhere 👀 - RandySavage

Driving somewhere for a walk or exercise is just a **** poor excuse to get around the government's instructions, why try and deny that? Come on don't be so naive. - RandySavage

Ah I see you still haven't caught the coronavirus? Why is that do you think?

As I said earlier today I've given up caring what other people do now.

It's hard to put sarcasm across on the internet.

People can go where they want, I've given up caring what other people do now, it was affecting my mindset and anxiety.. Me personally, I have left my village twice in the past 28 days. 😀
I've adopted a similar approach. I leave the house as infrequently as possible, though have had one or two bike rides (with my son) that went on slightly longer than an hour, but in the past month l have barely seen anyone except my wife, son and niece (whose living with us), haven't left the vicinity of where I live at all, and am hopeful none of us will catch the virus. What everyone else does is their business and I can't control it.

What was that Randy ?....... you were ......... what's that word............... WRONG !

Or do you think you're the Fonze ?
Wrong about what? Or right about what?

You itching for a debate or an argument? Or is the range not open yet? 😂

I'll continue to go above and beyond what the guidance recommends, i.e I'll do what every country with similar infection and death rate figures to ours is doing. If you want to do what you want to do that's fine by me, just don't expect sympathy if or when you or your family are effectively drowning out of water. 😉

Not itching for a debate, as I said in that original post "these are the current guidelines so the point is moot".
Just pointing out what a sad sack you are for resorting to abuse on the previous thread when all along the point I was making was correct after all.

As for your latest comments they just reinforce what I already thought about you that you are beneath contempt. Bye

The irony is strong in this one.
Claims of abuse then resorts to calling people sad sacks.
Accusations of abuse? **** the bed how have you coped in real life if you think my comments on an anonymous message board have hurt your feelings? Which before you say they haven't they clearly have for you to come back with such a randomly misplaced attack based on guidelines from a failing government 😂

My guidelines are simple and appear everywhere:

Stay Home
Protect The NHS
Save Lives

I can do that, I accept others can't, I realise some simply won't. We'll all fall into one of those groups and yes, the guidelines are open to interpretation and yes, loopholes exist if you want to argue about the semantics, but in my opinion, the more you are encroaching into the "won't" group is dangerous.

You can accept people can’t follow your guidelines?

There is no loophole, you can travel to exercise. That much is clear

No Gaz, those are the government guidelines, not mine.
I can accept them at the simplest level. Some people can't because they are frontline workers, in the food supply chain etc and so they have to be out and about.
Yes, you can travel for exercise, that is your choice, but like I said earlier, you'll be in one of three groups I mentioned.
If you can exercise safely locally then you will. If you can't exercise safely locally then travelling to do so is fine. If you can exercise safely locally but you choose to travel for exercise then you are essentially making a non-essential journey and by default exploiting a loophole or vagueness in the guidelines. That is the choice of the individual and why I suggested that people should ask themselves some questions.
If you get stopped and questioned as to why you are not near your home then you can explain your reasoning to the police and let them judge the merits.

Stay home, protect the nhs, save lives.
It’s a mantra and not the guidelines.

that’s your interpretation, imo it’s incorrect. It doesn’t say assess if it safe to exercise before you are allowed to travel . It just says you are allowed to travel to exercise

3 fatal car crashes on the roads in Lincoln just yesterday.
You do wonder if each journey was ‘necessary’

I could walk to and from the supermarket, no problem. I can't carry a week's worth of shopping for a household though. Unless I take the trolley home but I'm not a student anymore.

I don't like the advice that you can drive to a beauty spot for a walk. In normal times these places are quite quiet and people are spread out. When every other form of activity is closed then these places will be the most popular and so will be busy. Especially if you live somewhere that has only has a limited number of them in the first place.

Just managed a two hour walk and saw four people (two pairs) in the distance. We have huge areas of open land that no one uses.

Do whatever you think is correct Gaz and I'll do what I think is correct.
