Nathan Wood

We desperately need to get them out on loan more but we seem to struggle to do this. At the moment only we only have goalkeepers out.

Not sure this is true, we tend to have a solid number of academy players out on loan each season.

We had Wood out on loan at Hibernian and he flopped so badly that they ended the season long loan early and he was back here in November.

Last season we had Coburn, Dodds, Conteh, Brynn, Hemming and Kavanagh out on loan from the academy.
Probably a few more I've forgotten.

Yeah we do alright with goalkeepers.
Coburn - fair.
Conteh - was at National League level and has now left.
Dodds - first loan spell at age 21/22 and was with a view to a move away anyway.
Kavanagh - had half a season in L2.

Joe Gibson, Jack Stott, Jeremy Sivi, George Gitau, Cain Sykes, Jack Hannah, Bryant Bilongo, Pharrell Willis, Sam Collins - all relatively senior members of the u21s now and none have had any loan experience (bar a couple of games last season for Bilongo at Woking). Maybe they aren't good enough for L1/L2 - but we keep giving them contracts (and they have been around the first team) so presumably we see something there.

But had Wilder stayed in post or Carrick took over more quickly would Hackney have got an opportunity? I'm not sure.
possibly not, but that is part of the reason why Wilder isn't here and Carrick is. We've traditionally been good at letting the kids come through, and hardly anyone has been released/sold cheap to go on and end up higher in the league ladder than us

Wonder what a healthy sell on clause is, surely 20 or 25%
I think that was part of it when we sold him.. he was very highly rated and we sold him really cheap. The sell on clause will be higher than normal.. 10% normal

Healthy suggests around 20% to 25% as you say.

£2m is better than a kick in the teeth!

It's free money really

He ended the loan to Hibs and I'm not that sure he was desperate to leave and our hands were tied. I think we (Wilder & club) were happy to let him go and inserted the clause for the scenario that has or is panning out.

Wasn't it Warnock in charge when he went on loan to Hibs? If I remember correctly Warnock was against the loan, but Wood and his agents had arranged it so there was little he could do. I think he wanted him to stay or go on loan to an English club. He'd previously been on loan to Crewe (I think) and been in and out of their side. Maybe it just worked with Martin and the Swansea coaches, and we couldn't get him to show that form with us. I guess it happens with players.

Would he start ahead of Fry or Lenihan?

I haven’t watched him play since leaving apart from against us, so I can’t really say either way.

The window we sold him we brought in two centre backs Clarke and Lenihan, so we could of given him a chance but obviously did not rate him or did not think he was ready, which is fair enough and it sounds like we are getting a few quid from the deal so maybe it has worked out grand for all
