Naming the stands

I’d prefer something like The Dockside End for the North Stand, The Steve Gibson for the West, not sure about the others?? Mannion? Hardwick? Camsell.

The problem (for me) with certain past managers and players having their names used is they may have no connection to the current ground and at what future point do you consider a refresh?

I know it is boring, but for Boro, the commercial benefit of enabling your ground or stands to be named after a sponsor should be looked at where feasible (3-5yr+ deals) to avoid confusions. It is a potential revenue stream, especially in the Premier League.

If Steve Gibson is adamant he does not want a stand naming after him, that should be respected by fans imho. Surely, when the time comes, it becomes a matter for his family and his wishes. I am amazed he hasn’t named any to promote his own business interests of which Boro is a part, e.g Bulkhaul. Anything that benefits him benefits Boro after all.

Reduce the North Stand prices to 5p and call it the bob end

No need to reduce the price; we'll just name it after Bob.

I don't mind the Steve Gibson stand; some lasting acknowledgement of his contribution is required.
Otherwise, I'm not in favour of naming after people. I'd prefer to name them after parts of Teesside.

You'd end up with the Stockton stand fighting the Redcar end!

There was a rumour eons ago that Gibson doesn't want a stand named after him but he knows that's what fans would vote for, so he's sticking with N/S/E/W.
we shouldn't name any of the stands after a living person, but it's pretty bland naming them after compass points. We don't have to name them all in one go. Start with "The Greggs Camsell Corner", top goalscorer in our clubs history and I think top international scorer as a Boro player and there is zilch, zip, nada to commemorate him.

that is key. For me the stands get named, and until there is a significant upgrade to the stand it stays with that name. Or we state that for the next 20 years it will be known as the "xxxxx stand"

I thought during the 2000’s quite a few people called the north stand the New Holgate End? Seems to have died out following relegation

He wasn't the best, was he
we were used to Souness who left in 78 ,then Proctor and Craig Johnston ..... then along came Rossi and Bobby Thomson in 1980 , just looked out of his depth although he did make 30 odd games a couple of years with us .... think they were mostly in Murdochs reign in 81... bad times

I know colin well, hes not a bad lad and I think he would be the first to admit he was no midfield maestro but you are correct we were spoilt with the likes of souness, Proctor and Johnston .

Gibson, Brownlee, Vaughan and Bolckow. Two names which will always be synonymous with the club and two with the town. The latter two might actually get people talking and looking in to the history of the town.

Rather than rule out naming the stands after pre-riverside players, I'd be in favour of keeping a link to our history. I certainly wouldn't think naming a stand after a living player or manager would be appropriate.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the stadium being renamed the Steve Gibson Stadium in 50 (or so) years.

Candidates for me could be Mannion, Hardwick, Camsell and Clough.

We would benefit from more emphasis on club history rather than soulless branded or random geographical names.
