Name the best ever all time Boro side from riverside era ( with a twist )

What question are you answering?

Best players to have played in the Riverside , at any point in their career.

I have put my answer earlier in the thread just thought I’d put a team out to remind oursleves of the reality of supporting the Boro. You get brilliance and crap. That’s why we love it. Hoping for more of the brilliance sooner rather than later

Woody had one amazing season here. The rest of his career he was a very good player but so was Pally. I think what tips it for people is that Woody played for Real Madrid 13 times, but look at what Pally won in comparison, both trophies and caps. I think had Woody not had that very short-lived/unsuccessful spell at Madrid, people would say Pally wins this hands down career wise.

In terms of what I saw at Boro Woodgate, IMHO, was better. The best player ever to play in the Prem; Henry, never got a kick on Woody's debut. I sat amongst some Arsenal fans at that game and they were aghast at just how good he was.

I love Pally but Woodgate, on his day, was imperious.

Great player in his prime. Still baffles me to this day why we signed him though

Was a decent player aye. If Downing gets no where near these teams Dyer certianly doesn’t. It was a mad signing at the time given his injury record but in the games he played he was decent enough tbf

I'd argue Yakubu over Boksic for the bench. Yakubu was consistent for years banging in goals every season, as we know Boksic was immense when he was on his game but he wasn't consistent at any point in his career and had some very low scoring seasons in Serie A. He's kind of a player who it's hard to say exactly when his prime was.

Marseille. 4th in European footballer of the year. I know where you're coming from in terms of goals but at his best Boksic far better than the Yak (IMO of course).

Yeah his stats at Marseille were impressive but I’d argue we don’t normally class players as in their prime when they’re early 20’s but then again if that’s when you’re best I suppose that’s you’re prime.

He was sublime that day, no question, but if we're comparing over entire careers and not just Boro, Pally not only achieved more but was the better player, imho. Woody wasn't consistent enough to be honest.

The team of Galacticos we can pick from that era is pretty amazing really. Outside of the big fellas is there any other club that can compare with those names?

I must have mis read the post then because I thought this was about players who played for us in their pomp.

The problem with Woodgate is his best was limited because of injuries. For that reason I'd have Ugo Ehiogu with Southgate. Those two were outstanding together. If I remember correctly Boro kept ten clean sheets in a row with those two.

Valdes

Reizegar
Southgate
Ehiogu
Ziege

Ince
Gascoigne
Mendieta

Juninho

Boksic
Viduka

Interestingly everyone has put Valdes in goal.

Now yes, he was at Barca when they won just about everything, but did they really need a top keeper with the team they had - I know everyone talks about Messi, Iniesta, Xavi etc, but the defence was world class as well - Pique, Puyol with Mascherano in front of them

I don't think so, and I don't think he was.

I'd personally have Schwarzer
