My already fragile mental health

Has just taken a battering from a £16 Joseph Joseph tin opener I got given for Xmas that I cant work out how to use.

I’ve spent best part of 15 mins trying to work it out and fdiled, even tried YouTube still no idea, fed up having no one to share stuff like this.
Loneliness will kill me. That bloke on with Bob and Paul tonight knew his stuff.

The tin opener isn’t really the problem though.
Was told years ago it’s always something small that tips you over the edge.

First world problems are knocking hell out of us. Try a two bob one from the supermarket.
Honestly don't.

I bought one from a "cook" shop in Bedford. I specifically asked for something that wasn't made in China as everything in supermarkets are *****.

The one I got is brilliant. I would have thought a Joseph Joseph one would be good.

Spectacularly missed the point of my post. Knew there was a reason that I’ve got you on ignore. You probably don’t remember but you were vile towards me a few months back. Merry Xmas.

Don’t switch your phone AET, I don’t think it’s going to help you to be out of contact,

If you have no-one else you can call then call 116 123, Christmas is a difficult time of year for a lot of people, or you can post on here, message me and the many on here who are more than willing to be ears, if nothing else.

I’m sorry people think my problems are first world problems.

I’m sorry I’m troubled and I can’t deal with stupid things going wrong or when I need help to work things out. That I have no one to share my life with or support network.

I’m sorry I go to bed every night not wanting to wake up in the morning. I’m sorry I think about suicide several times a day.

I don’t honestly care if you laugh at me. I’ve never had any self esteem, I’ve been picked on and bullied for being gay since I was at school and I was even beaten up on linthorpe road twenty years ago.

I have family. They all go back work on Boxing Day I don’t, I get 10 days off. I’ve never been able to enjoy Christmas because of the crushing loneliness. People I work with think I’m a freak for not wanting the time off.

I’m outta here.

Advice from a retired qualified mental nurse. Hope it helps? The tin opener is the negative outlet for your frustration. You are 'catastrophizing' this is a common disorder associated with depression and anxiety. Things get blown out of all proportion. Try to tell yourself this when you have these kind of thoughts and take back control over your thinking. It may sound silly but speak out loud and say to yourself 'This is one of my irrational thoughts it will not rule my life!' Try it the next time you feel things are overwhelming you.

You need a healthy outlet for your anger and mood. Make a new year resolution to exercise more. Even just a twenty minute daily walk. Make the effort to see people socially. You don't have to be the life and soul of the party but a little social contact will help significantly. If you drink alcohol either stop, or cut down, This is a depressant and will exacerbate you symptoms all the more. Try to have a regular sleep pattern, the exercise should help this. People underestimate the importance of sleep on our mental health.

It won't be easy and tell yourself this rather than beat yourself up! Try to stop when you say to yourself 'I should do this' or I should be like that' or 'I must be this, or that' The words 'should' and 'must' only add more pressure. This is called 'Musterbation' think of that word and laugh to yourself if you find yourself using those words. One day at a time. An old Chinese proverb: 'A thousand mile journey begins with the first step' so remind yourself of that. New year, new start.

Good luck!

Thanks for offering AET this support, I told him yesterday that there was plenty on here who are more than willing to help.

My healthy outlet is my woodturning. After a bad day at work (I've just retired) I would go into the shed and turn a lump of wood into something pleasing. Sometimes it would go wrong but just using a large roughing gouge to turn something square into a round shape was enough to release my tension.

We all need something to help.
