Muzzy Carayol on playing for Aitor Karanka

One thing which I always remember is Carayol giving a post-match interview after we'd just hammered some team away from home - think it might have been Blackpool. He said that despite us winning, Karanka was still finding faults in the performance and he spoke about him being a perfectionist. I can't remember the tone of the interview exactly, whether Carayol was meaning to have a dig at Karanka or if he was being complimentary or tongue in cheek.

I think Karanka adopted a bit of the Mourinho-style from their time working together, very opinionated and strong-minded. I doubt either change their stance much, if ever and demand everything on and off the pitch from their players (rightly or wrongly). He was clearly very intelligent. I suppose all of these attributes have a tendency to cause friction. I do like a strong and fiery character though and it must be difficult to please all of the egos in the dressing room. I couldn't imagine Warnock mincing his words/opinions much either.
I think Warnock, from what I've read, appears to be a very good man-manager though in the sense that if he falls out with a player he will almost always keep the door open. I don't feel like AK would. I don't think Ferguson did either, but you could argue that in the Championship you need to be a bit more open-minded as you can't just go out in January and replace them with someone better every time (like AF could).

Really poor from MC imho. Is this the head coach that did not want Downing, Forshaw, Rhodes either, but Adomah ran over to hug? For the record they were white bar Albert btw , just in case anyone did not realise
I know the recent interview with Downing and McMahon, Stewie said Karanka was just the strangest manager he'd ever encountered. There certainly is no denying he was losing the plot towards the end of his time at Boro, the storming off and just weird decisions, so I actually don't find this too hard to believe, although like has been said, there is always two sides to the story...

There’s still a bum imprint on his naughty step from him. If your attitude was wrong, you were out. Simple as that.
Kamara dressed as clown, being a clown is one example.
Players turning up late under Mowbray’s was also mentioned.

I bet Leadbitter, Clayton, Gibson, Friend won’t have a bad word said about Karanka. He obviously needs to work on his man management in some areas though

I am very interested to see how AK does at Birmingham, I think if he doesn't do well he might find it hard getting employed again, certainly in the upper tiers here in England which is the only experience he has at senior level. He didn't do badly at Forest, but it was a bit of a strange departure.

To be fair a lot of managers have strange departures from Forest. Birmingham too, so will be interesting to see how it works out, Birmingham wouldn’t of been my next job after Forest personally if I was him

I agree with that, I thought it an odd choice given all that has happened at Birmingham too. A managers/head coach’s success is not always in their total control. Owners personalities and their actions and behaviours and interference have as much influence on the success of a head coach / manager at times. I hope for AK’s sake he has been given assurances, I presume he must have. I expect them to be top 10 this season tbh.

Good man management isn't about getting along with everyone. It's about getting the best out of your team. Carayol was dropped at a time when we couldn't buy a goal. Was it eight games we went without scoring? He didn't work hard enough for the team. Go forward a year and we broke a second tier record for clean sheets and got promoted. Everyone worked their **** off in that team, while carayol was probably playing in the French second division somewhere. That is good man management.

They could well be top 10 if he gets them playing how the boro did in the championship. Excited for the season, just hope we get some signings in ASAP

Really. When was he dropped? I recall he scored 8 in 18, then got a serious knee injury that kept him out for a very long time.
Or is my mind playing tricks?

Not sneaky at all, poorly worded maybe yes. I have clarified, but clearly that is not acceptable to you. I will live with it, I am sure you scrutinise every word you say or write and never leave anything to doubt, well done you.

There was nothing wrong with the wording. You knew exactly what you were doing.

No, you merely misinterpreted it, but I appreciate you can’t see that. I can’t control your interpretation of it, that said, I acknowledged I could have worded my initial comment better tbf. Anyway, enjoy what is left of your day.

Eight games without conceding wasn’t it?

All played more games and made a more significant impact at their clubs at a higher lever.

Significant impact? Chalobah?

Higher level? Butterfield?

Not sure I agree tbh Newy. In any case I don't think there's much relevance in what they did at other clubs to Carayol's comments.
