It’s a shame Payero isn’t cutting it. Before he got loaned out there was a couple of times he looked a really good player.

I'd sooner have Mowatt than Payero, as at least Mowatt would get some game time and we know what to expect. With a run of games he was decent at the end of last season and is better than what we have in Payero and Barlaser.
Was really frustrating on Saturday when we could've brought Gilbert or Coburn on, but we went for the same old of sticking Crooks up top and hoping for the best.

The only CM we should bring in is a replacement for Howson, either immediately, or a young understudy who will be able to grow into the role ready to take over next year. Mowatt would make zero sense as he fits neither of those.

I would have him back, I see no negative having him back at the club, by all accounts very popular within the squad, and more than capable at this level, at the job he prefers.
However, I cant see it happening. MC inherited him, and only used him at a push, which makes me think we wont waste funds on him unless its absolute bargain bucket and cant say no.

He was injured when he joined us.. pretty much missed half a season.
When he did play.. he did not disappoint.

He may not have disappointed you Newy but I Dont personally think it was a coincidence that when he replaced Howson we went off the boil.

Thats down to us missing Howson. Not due to Mowett playing.
Mowatt and Howson are different players, and there was no one else to play. Ask MC and I'm sure he would say he would not have expected Mowett to perform the same as Howson, he cant.
The team will always miss Howson, unless we have Howson#2 waiting in the wings.

fair point.. we need to bring in potential first team starters that can step up.. rather than players that can do a job.. maybe.. if.. etc

Long term what are we going to do about Howson? Medium short term really.

I know what your saying, and I do agree about not wasting funds, but your example is hes not better than Howson, and unfortunately I think we are finding out its tough to find someone in our price range at the minute who can do that role.
So, at some point we may need to consider bringing in 'tried and tested' to beef up the squad.
As I said above, I cant see it happening, as I dont think MC thinks he is technically good enough. - unless verrrrrry cheap, late in the window
