Mowatt up for grabs

Personally I think he’s so much better than Barlaser who has imo been absolute bust, but then again he only cost around a million but still it’s money wasted. Problem with Mowatt is that he’s probably looking for a 4 year deal but at 28 that’s not going to happen.

Mowatt doesn’t replace Howson but as we found out last season he can cover for the back four and seemed to have a very good understanding with Lenihan. Ok he doesn’t pull up any trees but he’s certainly got the experience which for me is what we need.
Think he was less than 1m, 700k wasn't he? Anyway, I'd sell, someone will pay 1.2-1.5m (a profit) because he creates chances, but he's not strong enough in the physical side of things, pace, balance, acceleration. Give him space he'll hurt you, but you don't get space against the top half sides. Sell and re-invest the money in a young midfielder from a lower league. Someone like Jenson Weir at Morcombe, 10 goals and 5 assists as a 20 year old midfielder in League One. Anyone that is playing regular football under 21 year old is a prospect, a better proposition than someone who has proven not to be up to it. Same rationale I'd sell McNair and buy Cashin from Derby.

Barlaser will be decent for any bottom half champo side but not good enough for a play off starter and I don't think he ever will be.

Not for me. He's 28 and has already had his fair share of injury issues.

Thought he was decent enough playing under Carrick but didn't pull up any trees either.

We should be looking to sign a younger player, who can potentially become Howson's long-term replacement, and challenge for a first-team place this season.

Barlaser is gash! utterly woeful player!
I've been disappointed in him and don't think he is good enough, but that is a bit over the top Ironops.
He will never get the time he needs to play his game. He could come on when the opposition are goosed, we are well on top and he could look good. But he can't get us in to that position.

ok 'gash' may be a bit strong, but he doesnt look good enough for a promotion chasing side (if thats what we are? - frankly I dont see it this season) and he doesnt suit our current set up and style of play

Don't get the love in for Mowatt

He is slow and one dimensional, if you think he is the solution to our current malaise your deluded imho
