Moving back to Teesside

I would chose Ingleby Barwick every time. Large estate with amazing resources, outstanding schools and a safe and lovely place to walk around with the family. Every area including Martin shops, Acklam shops, Trimdon Ave, Hemlington / Coulby, Yarm etc has small groups of young people who behave anti socially. In Ingleby your talking about half a dozen in a population of 15,000plus. Been lots of jealousy on here against IB by people who have never lived here. Price wise everything is way over priced now but supply is much greater in Ingleby than Eaglescliffe so you don’t pay the same premium

Depending on what you're looking for, it might be worth having a look around Stockton. Somewhere like Hartburn might be a bit less expensive than Eaglescliffe. You'll also have Ropner park right on your doorstep which has recently been shortlisted as one of the best parks in the country. Another option if you like newer housing and greater energy efficiency is the recent development by the River Tees in Stockton. It will only be a short walk to the high street and the location will be good for walking/jogging along the river. Darlington would be also worth a look.

Obviously Ingleby Barwick is popular with some, but it's just one of those places that lacks any sort of inspiration. It's a housing estate that you drive to and from. That's the one thing you'd always notice about the place, despite the many thousands of people living there, you'd never see anyone walking around. That might have changed if there's more amenities now. But there always was pubs and shops there.

Hurworth and Neasham are or were nice though like everywhere else are expanding as is Middleton St George and just outside of Teesside with nice spaces and valleys next to the Tees for running / walking etc.

What about the Montpellier quarter of Harrogate where you once claimed to live ? 😂

I am moving back to the area and was hoping to get some feedback on here regarding places to avoid moving to. I lived for a lot of years in the Eaglescliffe area and always found it ok there. Low crime and anti social behaviour but there is very little available here to buy in my pricerange.
I have been looking in the Marton area around the shops on stokesley road and acklam around acklam hall. Any views on these areas or any other recommended areas would be appreciated.
Only advice I can offer is don't live north of the river, it's just wrong. :)

I keep an eye on the market with a view to a possible move to the area in the coming years. I was particularly taken by this charming 17 bedroom detached property for 225k...... not something you see on the market down south every day o_O

I wondered if anyone on the forum was a current resident and could provide some info

Ingleby is a funny one for me. I can see the attraction of it to people with kids.
I pass through it most days and while there’s not really anything wrong with the place, there’s not really anything that’d make me want to live there either.
My Mrs calls it the estate of no imagination, and I can see where she’s coming from at times….

One thing I don’t understand is the snobbery and reverse snobbery arguments that surround Ingleby.
Lots of people who don’t live there seem to have a chip on their shoulder with those that do, throwing the old “spam city” “two cars on the drive no food in the fridge” comments.
Then on the flip side of that there’s lots who live there who for some reason think that it’s something other than a larger version of the modern estates that every town in our region has nowadays.

Ingleby is a good place for kids, the schools are excellent, its one of the main reasons we moved here. Having said that if we didnt have kids we wouldn't probably live here, i would prefer somewhere more rural. I guess it depends on your family circumstances.

I think IB has a lot of things going for it

Education - 2 Secondary schools that are Outstanding and in All Saints boasts the best 2022 GCSE outcomes. 5 Primary schools that are all at least good and outstanding.

Recreation - 7 parks including Romano a well established park with loads of attractions. A leisure centre with pool, gym library available for £24 a month. A golf course and driving range in the estate. Extensive cycling paths and walking paths used every day by thousands of friendly walkers, dog walkers. 4 pubs, five if you include the fox covert along with 4 separate restaurants and coffee shops. Two community centres with loads going on every day. Sumner, Autumn and Winter Markets with great food and gift markets.

The perception from people who don’t live here that it is ‘soulless’ ‘cold’ and empty is complete and utter rubbish. My local has a great atmosphere, superb beers and a great craic . We walk 5 miles around the flat estate paths 5 days a week and meet dozens of similar folk we chat with.

It is not utopia or nirvana and I know there are similar lovely estates in Teesside but some people don’t have spout some utter garbage on here about a place they know nothing about. Hope you enjoy the place you live in as much as I do.

I love living in Norton. Yes it has a few issues in certain areas but where hasn't. Beautiful village, easy access straight onto the a19, major bus routes, very popular and upcoming at the minute, I'm very happy here.
