Engel has looked worse than Coulson so far to me. Big lump, slow, turned inside out by Smyth, offers nothing going forward, has a dodgy pass or two in him.

So far he reminds me of Pogatetz when he first came into the side at LB to replace Queudrue and clearly wasn't suited as a fullback.
 
Their second goal was again proof that we really needed a DM during the window. Engel is also very isolated so it’s no wonder he can’t get up the pitch to support the attack on a consistent basis.

I think the system works - its been proved as such, but for some reason its not working this season.

Is that down to recruitment? Maybe, but then a lack of intensity and inability to carry out basic functions do not require a huge amount of talent.

Personally I think teams are sitting in, keeping compact and inviting us to play through them, which so far we've not been capable of doing.

I also think we look like we're lacking ideas and belief - not surprising maybe given results.

That possession style works if you've got the players with the extra quality to break teams down when they put malen behind the ball. Which you are giving them time to do. This season, it looks so far like we don't have that quality to do that

Exactly the point I was making, I agree.
 
The reason we’re losing is more down to bad defending than not scoring. Sure we’re not scoring but the defence is awful and the rest of the team aren’t pressing anywhere near well enough out of possession. Combined with poor passing and it’s really pops at times, we’re conceding easy goals. The fact we’re creating lots of chances suggests we’re not far off at the top of the pitch but at the other end we’re miles away.

To me its the full backs they were much further foward providing width and were a key part of how we able to recycle possession. McNair and engel are absolutely woeful and are often too deep to provide the width or support the midfield need. As much as chuba has been missed we are equally missing giles and this width he provided. All we can hope for now is smith or Dijksteel return to form or even we try jones at right back and on the left please god lets hope bangura has more quality than the rest of the summer signings .The recruitment team are playing with fire once again expecting bangura to be championship ready.
