Mobile Networks at the Riverside

So is the problem the number of people all in one place rather than the stadium acting as some sort of Faraday cage ?
Yea, basically mobile masts act as a large scale mesh router system and your phone will connect to a specific tower, each tower will have a set amount of capacity. Mass gatherings will cause that capacity to go over unless the infrastructure is built around it and there won't be a business case for that at a place like the riverside - nonresidential, industrial, large capacity for a coupe of hours now and then the rest very little.

Busy stadiums with residential zones around them will have more local masts to take on capacity

If you aren't looking to take out an annual contract and are happy with a sim-only deal you can try them all. All the low-cost ones that use other networks (ID, Smarty on 3, Lycamobile on EE, Lebara on Vodafone etc) do no contract deals. You can use it for a month, see if it works how you want and if not move to the next one the following month.

Ultimately its a combination of network coverage and available bandwidth. If its any interest then as the Emergency Services Airwave network gets replaced its going to be on EE's 5G backbone - although the speed of implementaing a complete overhaul of the emergency services comms network will take some time so it'll probably be 10G by the time its in.

The Riverside is one of Cleveland Police's COLs (Critical Operational Locations) so will get enhanced coverage.

Oh and for the fear of repeating myself from the previous mobile network thread....there are only 4 licensed mobile network operators in the UK. EE, O2, Three, and Vodafone.

Others like Giff Gaff, ID, Lebara, Tesco, Virgin, Sky etc bulk purchase service access from one of the above four operators.

I send a message to a Boro friend of mine who can't get to matches any more. If I do it straight after the goal then it goes - if.I wait 30 seconds it will take 5+ minutes.

One day I will guess the password for the router next to the away team bench. If you're nice to me I may even share it with others if the action on the pitch isn't up to scratch.

I'm with 02 and my phones a write off soon as I get in the stadium.

Defo gonna change when it's up for renewal.

I'm with Vodafone, and I can use my data perfectly during the match but it obviously grinds to a halt before and after, or if we've scored as everybody else rushes to let people know on their phone.
Not much you can do about that.

At least I can check the scores fairly easily.

I'll be changing network anyway, because ai have zero phone signal at my house and it's causing problems.

I'm on 4G with EE in the SW corner and at half time I can usually check the scores without too much trouble. My son has O2 and gets nowt.

I'm with EE in the bottom half of the North stand and its fine for me right up until half time. I just try and remember to load up the scores just before the ref blows his whistle because if i even attempt at half time my phone just laughs at me.

& then literally as soon as the 2nd half kicks off it's back again, so it's just supply and demand. I reckon 90% of the crowd are using their phones at half time so i don't even bother trying.

I have found that O2 are rubbish whenever there is a crowd of any size anywhere. I've switched away from them and won't go back. I was constantly in places where everyone else had decent signal and I and others on O2 couldn't get anything.
I find with O2 it appears as if I'm connected but nothing's happening. If I switch airplane mode on and off it starts working again.
As other have said, useless at the match.

Mine is OK except at HT where I can’t get on internet or send messages. I can during the game when I assume less people are using phones. Annoying the club don’t use the large screen to show HT scores. Took ages to check my bet 😂
