Mitrovic - Now the dust settled

I thought that Willian was pointing that his hand was close to his chest rather than the ball hitting his chest. Either way, it was handball and a penalty.
Agreed, I thought he was trying to say his hand was on his chest, and definitely not mid air between his body and the post as the footage showed.

Watch it again @newyddion , the refis pushed before the red card, the intimidation comes after. Admittedly the manager's sending off on the TV footage looks soft, buts that's before you realise we have only seen a little bit of his Yosemite Sam impersonation as he is shooting off at the Fourth official which we don't see and there is probably more mouthing off at the ref.

William himself goes all puppy dog eyed and points at his chest where his by now comatose hand is resting, he is doing his best to deceive the ref, maybe Mitrovic believed him and felt a massive injustice with it, but in reality the ref made the right call at every point.
Watched it a few times, first time I missed the card and through the was gonna get himself sent off. Then I saw the replay and it looked like he prodded him, then another angle where it looks worse.. almost like he punched his arm. The call for VAR was against the refs wishes and he knew that.. silva pulled him up and he got carded.. then embarrassed by how blatant the handball was he got the card out straight away and with nitro pulling his arm back as he tries to storm away he dishes out the red.. mitro then gets in his face and starts moving him back.

The fans were robbed of a game. Man Utd players shouted at him to check VAR, Silva shouted at him for not checking it before..
Mitro pulled him pulled him back to shout at him.

The handball was a clear red card an I honestly feel that the decisions were OTT

The whole handball rule is ridiculous and should be changed. If it's handball, whether or not it's accidental, if the offender receives an advantage it should be a penalty.

My word some nonsense there Newy.

Mitrovic pulled/pushed the ref. Red card. Doesn't matter whether the ref had previously made a mistake, it's a straight red. Then he aggressively leans into the referee forcing him to back pedal. That is another red card, I think we can also assume from his body language that he isn't exchanging pleasantries with the official. Another red card. If he gets less than a six game ban he has got off very lightly.

The actions of the Fulham players and manager robbed the spectators of a game. The pen made it 1-1 they would still have been in the game. Stupidity has a built in reward system.

I do disagree with the red card for Willian, like when we had Fry sent off and a penalty awarded against the Mackems (disregarding the fact that all contact was outside the area) it seems harsh to give both. Though it is, I understand, technically correct.

Interesting you disagree with the red card for Willian.. just goes to show.

The cards have been given out and can be justified.. interesting to see where they go next.

The fact he is comparing the two just shows what absolute whoppers these guys are.

Why?

He deliberately stopped the ball going in on the line with his hand.

That's a clear red card offence.

That would have been a goal if he hadn't cheated, and there's no guarantee that a penalty will be scored (think Ghana and Suarez), so it's not harsh to also punish the player for the cheating.

Accidental handballs aren't red card offences.

Agree that is a ludicrous comparison. (I assume he is referring to the "kung-fu" kick)
He deliberately stopped the ball going in on the line with his hand.
Did he?

I thought the downward movement of his hand could be interpreted as trying to move his arm down out of the way. I agree though that the decision is technically correct. I just think it is a double punishment as was Fry's. A "goal scoring opportunity" has been denied but the penalty is a "goal scoring opportunity" is it not? I'd say a yellow and a pen would be fairer.

I don't think Fry's situation is comparable.

Steffen had the ball and Stewart wouldn't have scored anyway.

Willian stopped Sancho's shot on the line with a deliberate swipe of the hand.

If he didn't do that, Sancho would have immediately had a goal.

A red is entirely fair in that situation.

It is a handball and he's done it to prevent a certain goal - its a pen and red card.

I can understand the Fulham players and managers getting upset, because they know they have likely moved from a winning position to a losing in in few seconds in the quarter final of a FAC match. Being upset does not give anyone the right to mishandle the referee. If we allow this to continue without extra punishment we will eventually end up without referees. Its already happening in amateur football.

He didn't deny a goal scoring opportunity, he denied a goal. A yellow and pen would mean defenders have carte blanche to play as a goalie as long as they only make one save per match.

Six match ban must be the minimum starting point. The handball red card was a stonewaller. I believe that the Fulham 'outrage' was not about the penalty and Willian red card but the fact that they had been denied 2 penalties they thought they should have had................in other words 'whataboutery'. Idiots.

And let's not forget all this has taken place under the Aegis eye of VAR that the clubs wanted so much because they are all big babies and think the whole world is against them, completely forgetting the stuff they repeatedly get away with.

Surely the 3 match ban should be the starting point?
Silva’s outrage was about the ref not checking their should for handball
Mitrovic’s outrage was for that and his manager being sent off..
He touches the ref.. violent conduct.. he doesn’t leave the field straight away.. stick an extra match on that. Maximum four match ban.

It’s not in the same league as Cantona, Suarez or even Di Canio

10 game ban for mitrovic
Manager 5 game ban
Fulham 20 point deduction suspended for Upton 3 years - failing to control players & manager.
TEN GAMES?!?!
ah-sport-preview-mitrovic-halsey.jpg

10 games would be lenient.
I’ve seen pushing and shoving at games, going up to referees.. like with Man Utd calling for the handball decision. But all of a sudden with Mitrovic the football world has been been rocked and we’re in an out of control auction for his head. Six games, Ten Games, Sx Months.. SET AN EXAMPLE!!

Where has it come from? Is this the dawn of a new age or just this guy being hung out to dry?

It’s come from the rules.

112 day minimum ban, 2 years maximum, 182 day suggested starting point.

I have no idea why you want him to be treated outside of the rules.
