Mitrovic - Now the dust settled

It’s come from the rules.

112 day minimum ban, 2 years maximum, 182 day suggested starting point.

I have no idea why you want him to be treated outside of the rules.
If those are the rules.. it doesn’t seem like that have been followed before.

Irrelevant to what should happen to Mitrovic.
So what changed in that game.. with the hapless ref who’d just missed a blatant call, what happened as he desperate tried to recover some dignity.. as he was waving his red card around like nobody’s business.. how long did it take for him to make that decision.

If the even had been a yellow card offence? Would Silva and Mitro have record a yellow instead? If VAR hadn’t shown a handball would Mitro have received any sort of punishment for the same actions?

You’re just flailing now.

Ref got all decisions right.

TEN GAMES?!?!

Have you watched the video he walks into
the ref head first to front him up / square up the ref is leaning backwards and having to back away to avoid it. That’s why he will get the extended ban not the grabbing his arm.

Silva stormed over ranting invading an area he wasn’t allowed in and then gave the ref the middle finger, that’s why he got
Sent off.

Not the initial handball shout.

TEN GAMES?

It was a soft red card. Ten games would mean his last game against Man Utd at Old Trafford.. stick Chris Kavanagh in as the referee again?
The clip finished before he leaned in aggressively to the referee forcing him to back away. So doesn't show the full story.

It's irrelevant anyway. The rule breached is clear, he touched the referee in an aggressive manner. Straight red and the range of punishments outlined earlier. 6 months is the suggested starting point. Hence me saying 10 games would be lenient. If the suggested starting point is applied he won't be playing again until end of September/beginning of October.

You can argue it all you like, but as it stands, those are the rules.

If those are the rules then those are the rules. Ten sounds like a lot.. might make for an interesting finish to the season if other refs start whipping reds out like that.

Players shouldn't be touching referees at any point. It may be a soft red if it was player to player but this is the official incharge of the game being handled due to a decision a player disagrees with.

Red card and long suspension to protect officials and send a message that it is not acceptable at any time.

Yep, at least... the game at the top needs to be reined in to set the example for refs in Sunday & non league.. without refs - impartial official - there is no game..
John Terry: racially abuses anton Ferdinand and receives a four-match ban.
Suarez: racially abuses Patrice Evra and receives an eight-match ban
Mitrovic: touches a referee and people call for a ten-game ban

three would do the trick for me.

it needs sorting out, refs need to up their game, the culture needs changing.. hanging it all on mitrovic and then continuing to rip off fans with an inconsistent approach then we might as well just hand the keys over and let the officials deceive, punishments can be chosen by a wheel of fortune.

fortunately neither me or you set the rules - if I was in charge Mitrovic wouldn't be playing again this season & would also have a significant fine, & suspended ban & multi million financial penalty paid now to be refunded upon exiting the English game if he behaves.

We all make mistakes - the ref in this case got it all spot on, imho - I shrug & think the authorities will - yet again - let the players & managers get away with it..

I think I’d be alright at setting the rules tbf

Player on player has no relevance to what happened

Player on Ref is absolutely beyond the pail. Then to blame referees.
refs need to up their game

You my friend are part of the problem that has lead to this problem. The demand for perfection from officials. Yet ironically, but importantly in this case the officials got the decisions right. We have got VAR and all that has achieved is to further undermine the authority of the referee on the pitch. We are watching a human endeavour twenty two human beings in competition making mistakes and adjudicated by four more human beings who WILL ALSO MAKE MISTAKES. As long as those mistakes are honest we should accept the imperfect spectacle for what it is.

I think I’d be alright at setting the rules tbf

Oh, I think you would find it an edifying and humbling endeavour.

Not if you think Mitrovic didn't really do anything wrong you wouldn't ! - you may not have noticed but you're out of step with the majority of this board, just about every journalist, just about every ex-player who has commented, and the referees body !

What did I give Mitrovic an extra shredded wheat? Not perfection, gradual improvement for the benefit of the game and the fans. That was an absolute circus!

What does the ref say to Silva? What does the ref say to Mitrovic? Rugby referees have clear strong interactions that demand respect. This ref had the card in the air before an offence had been committed.. does that look fair and reasonable to an aggrieved player or a fan?

I’ve said on numerous occasions that he should get a three match ban, four max.. anymore than that currently would not be fair imo.
