Mitchell van Bergen

What worries me is if Warnock gets 'his type of player' in instead. He didn't think Jones was ready, an he's been the brightest spark we have. Makes you wonder what his 'type' is, an in my eyes that's tall and decent defensively.
He's playing Jones, he also played Sam Folarin last season. Saying he'd rather not be relying on an inexperienced player is not the same as saying he's not ready. He clearly rates Jones or he wouldn't be playing him (could easily have dropped him instead of Spence at the weekend).

Give over JM, Assombolonga was a waste of space and I am delighted he is gurning somewhere else.
Uche is better than him and I'm sure we will bring in at least one more who is too.
Give over what? He is. He got around 1 in 3 for us at championship level, with the teams he has played in thats pretty respectable, doubt Uche or anyone we sign will give a goal return like that this season

Again another persons dislike is getting in the way of making a real judgement on the player, not a chance anyone can make a case that Uche is or will ever be a better player than Assombalonga.

Don’t get why anyone goes out of their way to defend Assombalonga. The blokes was a huge fraud who scored a few goals for us. Bloke never cared one jot about the club just lining his own pocket while giving just about enough effort to remain in and around the squad but not enough to show he cared and wanted to be successful here. A charlatan.

Also don’t understand why you would overly criticise a player just because of a transfer fee that he has no control over, or the fact he didn’t put a shift in. We knew he wouldn’t be that player from the start but it makes no difference to his ability

Why has this morphed into a thread on Britt? Thought we had sold him and everybody was in agreement he had to go. The fact that we still havent replaced his goals is another issue surely.

You made up your mind ten minutes into Uche's debut that he was garbage. I remember reading the thread. Assambolonga was awful. He was lazy, greedy and his movement non existent. Give me Uche any day of the week.

Uche will do a job for us but won’t get the goals Assombalonga did, I know I would rather have the goals than someone who works hard but doesn’t offer much quality

Again you’ve made your mind up on Assombalonga and your looking at it from a fans perspective who doesn’t like him, if uche is the better player he wouldn’t have spent the majority of his career in the lower leagues whilst Assombalonga was returning a solid record in the championship.
We completely wasted Assombalonga, if we wanted someone to run around like crazy for 90 minutes but offer nothing much else then we went for the wrong player and shouldn’t have signed him. Another victim of the ***** we have played over the years

Personally I thought Assombalonga did the running around and being a nuisense job pretty well last season. But he was never going to suit that role as well as Ikpazu who is stronger in the air and good at holding the ball up.

I do think an Assombalonga style striker is a luxury for most clubs now. A hard working striker who can chip in with goals but bring others into play alongside wide players who can score goals is generally a better bet for a top half Championship side. Ikpaezu with Watmore, Tav and Crooks is probably going to be better than Assombalonga for us in the long run.

I like your optimism but I think it’s more like we’ve been offered a possible future star for a song but Neil Bauser thinks he can get him for “half a sixpence” and another club watches us prevaricate over a deal AGAIN and thinks if we offer a couple of quid more we’ll nab him!

If we dont get him (mvb). So what...move on, must be plenty of other wingers at the hundreds of european clubs that can do the job consistently.. Find a polish, Portuguese, czech, serb, croatian, german alternative.. Doesnt have to be a world beater just get crosses in and score the odd goal and assist. Its the champioship not the premiership

I’d rather us stick to our guns than pay over the odds for players who may or may not work out (who had honestly heard of this lad a few weeks ago?)

We need to learn from our past stupidy or we will end up like Derby or worse. If that means we haven’t got the financial means to get promoted in the short term so be it.

Assombolonga's goal return was disappointing and he offered absolutely nothing else. Absolutely nothing. He was a terrible footballer and awful team player. The decision to make him captain was Warnock's worst here. He didn't offer any quality.
We scored 67 goals in Assombolonga' first season and were joint 7th highest scorers, then 49 in his second and were 20th highest scorers, 48 in the third and were lowest scorers in the league and 55 in his fourth we were 10th highest scorers.
He didn't score an impressive number of goals and didn't help us score an impressive number of goals.

Nobody is saying Uche is a world beater, but we are certainly not missing Assombolonga.
I find it weird that you are so hyper critical of the club, yet supportive of one of the biggest drains the club has ever had.

1 in 3 is decent for a poor championship side, he wasn’t as bad as some like to think.

I’m not arguing that he was a good transfer though, the money spend on him and Fletcher was a joke, but again that’s nothing to do with the players and shouldn’t come into a discussion about their ability.
My point was that we are weaker now than last season, no one can realistically argue that Ikpeazu and Coburn are better options that Assombalonga and Fletcher
