SC Heerenveen fans seemed overjoyed when purchasing van Bergen in 2018 and hoped he would show his potential playing more regularly in a settled team. Known for his speed and acceleration his let down is the final ball with fans moaning his final end product is at times selfish and rarely picks an easy pass but instead goes for glory when in important attacking situations. Often described as light-footed and lightning quick, van Bergen took time to settle but the last three seasons produced decent numbers for a right sided winger. Typically a right winger but can play on the left and is described by SC Heerenveen fans as deadly when attacking 1-on-1. Some green eyed monsters on the fans forum compare him to Yanic Wildschut with notable ability but rarely lives up to his full potential. It's worth noting for the last 12 appearances for the club they've used him on the left side to cut in with his right foot.

Some quotes regarding his technique from the clubs fans:
"He is very fast and therefore menacing, but seems to have no control over a good sequel from the action. Almost every shot 1 on 1 with the keeper is a hard shot against the keeper. He should be able to make 20 in the finish with peace of mind, and he comes alone for the keeper at least once every week"

"This is starting to get painful though: he has to give the simplest ball and it is 1-0 for Heerenveen. It's starting to look more and more like Van Bergen isn't going to develop critical technical skills any further"

"If we can get more than 1 million for Mitchell I'll be happy. It had 1 good season, then it got less and less."

Reports from the forum are he's began to slow down in his development, he's also found himself down the pecking order and will be benched more and more often and with him coming into the final year of his original deal Heerenveen have decided to cash in.
19/20 season = 5 goals & 4 assists in 25 Eredivise appearances
20/21 season = 4 goals & 2 assists in 32 Eredivise appearances

Reports in Holland suggest Middlesbrough are paying €2 million Euros (roughly £1.7 million *due to final year of his contract*) for his services with his wages being low, around the £9,500-£12,500 p/w bracket.
He's expected to sign in the coming days before the International window and has already said goodbye to the fans and team mates at Heerenveen.

@zorro_mfc According to a close reporter for the club SC Heerenveen it was tweeted out yesterday that he was missing from training and he confirmed within the tweets he's joining up with us before the weekend.
Mitchell van Bergen seems to be about to exchange SC Heerenveen for the English Middlesbrough FC. Former Heerenveen player Joey van den Berg, who also played in the Championship for Reading, thinks the winger should take his chance.
"I think that he can pose a threat in every competition with his speed. Only the hot pace and the matches how quickly they follow each other, that will be his big challenge. How can he handle it physically? But he could do it in football." , says Van den Berg at Radio Camataru . "But the sun shines very little there, I think it rains there 250 days a year."
"They are really fanatical in the north. There is not much there either, the only thing they have is football. You also notice that at Sunderland and Newcastle."

Looks to be formalities now, so yes we've bought him.

Time to panic? Its been a pretty poor summer and we have a week to go, its not exactly looking good

Once again the recruitment in attacking areas has been **** poor… nothing changes
Look so much weaker than last season at the moment.

Have a feeling we will panic and bring in Warnocks ***** before the window closes

I really don't understand the weaker than last season thing.

We lost Johnson, we got ameobi. Forest fans seem to think the same way about him we do about marv.

We lost Britt, Fletcher. Oh no! However will we replace their goals! I mean so far we got uche but as I've said before if a plastic bag was blown onto the field it would contribute more than those two.

We lost saville. Mediocre midfielder. Replaced him with crooks. Jury out.

We've loaned out wing. Good shot lacks mobility. We signed payero. Jury out but u23 caps would suggest a better player than wing.

We lost NML, Bolasie and the bloke who's name I can't even remember. They haven't been replaced. Yet their arrival coincided with our **** form. So no loss whatsoever. I'm sure we'll be able to loan some half arsed premier League winger to drag us down the league if we really need it.

We demonstrably are not weaker than the squad that started last season. And the three wingers contributed to a downturn in form so can't be seen to have improved the club.
