Millwall fans booing players taking the knee

I was just about to post the same!! Imagine working at the club where you know your fans are such vermin they would do the same as they did Saturday so you come up with this joining of arms knowing fine well they will probably just boo that as well. How about we will ban for life anyone booing, tackle the problem head on don’t give in to the racists!
I suspect some deal has been done with Millwall's supporters club. Reflects badly on everyone involved imho

Millwall FC : Interesting - there is only two black players in the entire squad of 25 - Mahlon Romeo and Kenneth Zohore.

The owner, John Berylson, an American, has business interests in the USA and inspite of his assertion he is a democrat, remains an active contributor to the Republican Party, including specifically Donald Trump - and George Bush, as the records below show:

First time on this thread and even before going through 17 pages of comments I could have predicted which posters have 'no problem' with Millwall fans shouting down an anti-racism show of support by professional football players.

I think it will look pretty off if the Millwall players take a knee whilst ours don’t.
That would send out the wrong message to the media and to fans. Regardless of what Britt thinks (he doesn’t start every game anyway) the rest of the team should insist that he changes his mind.
I doubt he made the decision on his own without consulting the other players

You're a bit of a d*ck borofur, name and shame and post examples of people who have "no problem" with what happened at Millwall?

Interesting fact, Mahlon Romeo is Jazzie B from Soul to Soul’s son. Like his father he is very articulate on the subject of racism and has condemned the actions of the Millwall fans.

Looks like the racists have won

Isn’t that sad?
The lesson is - booing the players has changed their minds.
Just raises the obvious question - why?

Is there really any need for the personal abuse towards me @Laughing ?

Go back through the thread and count them up.

Why should I name and shame when it's clear for anyone to see?
Because you are essentially calling people racist and no one is defending the behaviour of the millwall fans, no one.

I know Les Ferdinand has been quire vocal about taking the knee as he feels it has diluted the very point it stands for. I hope the QPR players do it at this evenings game as I feel it will have a big impact tonight. I cannot believe that Millwall FC really think that this is the right thing to do, why haven't they issued a similar statement to the Colchester one yesterday?

Asking the players to change their, assumed, joint decision in order to appease the fans is clearly wrong. I would assume it is to make sure it isn't a headline at their next home game. They are trying to brush this under the carpet instead of dealing with the issue.

Reading this morning that Millwall and QPR are going to stand arm in arm against racism with some QPR players deciding to take the kneee.

Apologies missed that one, fair enough I take back my comment Borofur.
You still made a valid point though Laughing. He said posters (plural). Some folk on this thread who are trying to dicuss the 'BLM' issues, or saying it's become a bit symbolic with no real action (Britt's point) or the reasons behind the booing seem to be being assumed to be racist for having that discussion. One doesn't necessarily follow the other.

You're picking me up on whether I referred to racists in the singular or the plural, really?
I've given you one.
I'll find another if that's so important to you.
I haven't accused anyone who is having a valid debate about BLM and its effectiveness or agenda.

As I said earlier in this thread, I would consider myself as left on the political spectrum, as being very liberal with my views and 100% anti-racist. However I've still had people try to insinuate that I'm racist on this thread for trying to understand the reasons behind the types of behaviour we saw at Millwall.

I believe that unless we understand the underlying reasons for behaviour then we'll never change it. I spent some time last night reading peoples opinions about this on twitter and you do see a theme with fans trying to defend the actions of the Millwall fans.

People were talking about the booing being a rejection of the BLM movement rather than anti-racism itself. Some Millwall fans have noted that they have taken part in a number of anti racism initiatives in the past without any protest from the fans. People have noted that Millwall have had a number of black players in the past and never any hostility towards them.

Rightly or wrong, lots of Millwall fans and football fans in general were remarking that they associate BLM with the vandalism of British War memorials and the 'defund the police' message also keeps cropping up. Finally, I also saw a small number of tweets from individuals saying that they see BLM as an organisation that wants to 'destroy our heritage in this country'.

Maybe this comes down to a misunderstanding of BLM? I don't know enough about it to comment but it seems that there is a perception of the BLM organisation that it is going beyond anti-racism and is veering into other areas. Maybe football or the BLM movement need to be more vocal about what taking the knee represents?

I found this an interesting opinion on the matter from Maajid Nawaz on LBC yesterday as well.

Before anyone starts hammering me, I've tried to highlight other peoples opinions above, not my own. I agree that some people are racist and will never change, we as a society need to look at institutional racism and look at how we can improve things. However, I think there are a lot of disaffected people in this country and some of them could be pushed towards the far right unless we try to listen and understand their point of view. Maybe some people are being misled by the media and education might be the way forward, like everything in life we have grey areas but calling everyone with a different point of view a racist doesn't help the situation.

Lets put it plain and simple:
Black Lives Matter matters in football because its not OK to be black - because football is institutionally racist from the terraces to the top of the League Management.
It means "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"!!!
Time to stand up and take notice!
