Michael Fabricant comments about teachers / nhs

Teachers didn't even have drinks (as in the alcholic ones implied in his comments) in the staffroom pre-lockdown. As a teacher I can confirm in our profession we prefer to go home and drink alone with our tears for comfort :ROFLMAO: Nurses would be too bloody exhausted to do anything but sleep I would imagine.

Thays the issue isn't it? He blatantly lies and massively offends key workers to "save big dog"

It's disgusting that he's supposed to be a representative of the people

Some nurses and some teachers probably did. They didn't set the rules though.

The bloke is clearly a pretty large tool.
No, they 'probably' didn't. As numerous teachers, nurses and their representatives have pointed out, in many if not most cases, staff rooms weren't even open (to avoid the risk of too many people being in the same room together), teachers and especially nurses were usually too exhausted after their shifts to do anything more than go home and crawl into bed and people in both professions know it would have been a sackable offence for them to go to the staff room at the end of a shift to drink alcohol with colleagues on an impromptu basis, as Fabricant said (and these are his exact words) "many teachers and nurses" did.

Here's an extract from a typical example of an NHS policy document. This one's from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital.

"Alcohol must not be provided at any events held on Trust premises, including those held after normal work hours, except where specifically authorised by the Chief Executive, an Executive Director or Chairman."

I can pretty much guarantee you that no Chief Executive, Executive Director or Chairman of any NHS trust in the country was authorizing staff drinking events of the end of shifts during Covid lockdowns.

Michael Fabricant would know what a typical working day looks like. If he's not had an expensive bottle of taxpayer subsidised champagne by lunchtime it's mahogany rage facepaint everywhere.

Well done. Some people on here are so unnecessarily rude it's amazing.

Do you honestly think that it's not possible or indeed probable that a couple of nurses or a couple of teachers somewhere in the country had a quiet drink together after a shift? Of the millions of teachers and nurses!
Cuthbert - why say this?

Yes, but not 'many' as Wiggy Wurzel said and they weren't the ones making the rules.

You absolute doyle.

Total and utter b*llocks. Stop parroting the absolute nonsense without any facts. I’d surprised if Fabricant doesn’t find himself in court facing libel unless he apologises imminently.

No, and it's utterly irrelevant to speculate as a comparison to what Fabricant said.

Any space where anyone could congregate was closed, unlike the suitcase bar at Downing Street.

I organized drinks for my whole teaching staff together straight after work on a Friday several times during the first lockdown. We even had trivia quizzes. I've probably still got the photos if anyone wants to see what 60 people all on the same Zoom call look like? 🙄
