He would not be an upgrade if we signed him - it’s the footballing equivalent of replacing a chipped tea cup for one with no handle. He’s as good as a man short in other words 😵‍💫

A striker that doesn’t score.

Our problem last season was strikers that don’t score. If he is signed to be a ‘back-up’ option, then he takes to place of Watmore (who’s better) or Coburn, which would harm his development.

No thank you on him or Gayle for me.

He's come in to replace the on loan strikers that didn't score, so a good replacement.

The 5 subs rule makes it not like that for me. We definetly should have at least 5 strikers if we are gonna start 2 every game. All will get plenty of minutes as wilder likes to share minutes about and be plenty of opportunities for change with 5 subs per game

He’s worse than Balogun, 100%.

So if he’s replacing those two our attacking options next season will be McGoldrick, Watmore, Coburn?

If after all this talk about big-name signings from Wilder, it turns out to be David McGoldrick I’ll be absolutely gutted.

Do you think he's going to be the only striker signing we make?

Also, can you point me to "all the talk from Wilder about big name signings"? Thanks in advance.

I'd take a top striker and McGoldrick, over two un-proven strikers any day of the week. However I wouldn't be happy about McGoldrick and some other randomer, but I don't think that will happen.

Sometimes you need to spend less on one area, so you can spend more on another.

Also, it's not likely we can make our larger financial commitments/ purchases, without getting some money in first (i.e Spence out), we need that cash in ASAP, as if it's left too late then it's really going to cut down our options.

The main man should be playing almost every game, and having support like Watmore, McGoldrick, Coburn and probably one other would likely be good enough, with us strengthening other areas too (which we have already done).

Some of you lot should work for a morning paper . Your creating a scenario that doesn’t even exist , wilder has stated we need 75 plus goals so obviously we’re not signing mcgoldrick to start games and be our main goal scorer . These will follow . 😉👍

Not at all, that comment suggested he was here to replace our loan signings, ergo be a main striker.

And sure, it’s on the boro website. ‘Chris Wilder delight at Rockliffe Return video’,

Something like ‘listen, we’re going to bringing in some players, some of which will be big name signings and some of which will fly under the radar’

You’re welcome 😉

Not quite "all this talk from Wilder" then...

Balogun might end up being better but I don't think we can say that yet. McGoldrick has scored goals in the Premier League against some very good sides, Balogun couldn't even nail down a place here and we couldn't score for toffee.

I think people forget about some of the stuff Balogun did here. Assist on his debut. Scored a couple of peaches, set up Watmore with an audacious backheel. He was definitely improving every day.

He was dropped just as was hitting form, then went on to score 3 for England u21s.

I bet if he goes to another Championship club he’ll hit double figures.

McGoldrick is a solid player at this level. Been around the block, plenty of ability knows how Wilder plays. Yes he's getting on, yes he's never going to get 20 goals. But he makes good runs, plays with his head up, makes space, asks questions and got 15 league goals last time he played a full season at this level. Bamford is the only Boro striker to beat that in the champo in 30 years...that includes 3 promotion teams.
