McGoldrick

We do need a big hitter to add to that list, which I guess is Gykores, which will probably run till the end of the transfer window. I would guess we are looking at maybe 10-12M plus add-ones, but they are playing hardball (a bit like us with Spence). Let's hope we can pull it off.
 
I have been thinking about this one since it was mentioned a few days ago. The biggest positive for me regarding signing Mcgoldrick is he knows Wilders system and what is expected from him, which in turn he will be able to pass on to the other strikers at the club. It will be a lot easier for the coaching team to get the message across to the other strikers if they have somebody training with then and physically showing them what is expected. The other bonus is he is a free transfer and probably on relatively low wages so not a lot to lose on that from and if he cost nothing then you can't lose anything on resale value! For me it's a big yes and potentially more positive than negatives.

He arrived in November with the January window around the corner.
He had to work with what he`d got and what the club could afford.
"Politics" at Sheffield United - with the owner attempting to pick the team and decide on new signings - effected Wilders plans - which is ultimately one reason why he jacked it in.

Without going over old ground he should be blamed for
1. getting Connolly in at the club
2. picking him immediately when he was not match fit and loooked at least a stone over weight.
3. persisting with footballing charlatan game in game out until the last couple of weeks of the season when it was obvious from the off he was as much use as an inflatable dartboard

I mean, there is an air of optimism now which we haven't had for years so if we don't sign big name, goal scorers (Of the Gyokeres, Armstrong ilk) it will be disappointing

If we start with 4 of:
Big name (Gyokeres, Armstrong, Another)
Gayle
McGoldrick
Watmore, and send Coburn out on loan til January, i think it'll be decent but it all depends on the main striker we bring in whether the 'rest' are accepted by me, and most people.

**** me that's definitely a **** list probably anyone with bamford including gestede. If Gayle and mcgoldrick are the starting strikers we can forget automatic promotion or promotion through the playoffs.
 
I'm less excited about Gayle than Mcgoldrick. I just think he's not the Gayle of a few years ago and will come on big money.

Mcgoldrick is coming in on a 1 year deal. Wilder knows him better than anyone on here. He was also pretty poor at Ipswich but Wilder made him into the main man. Especially his link up play.

I'd rather have Armstrong than Gayle.

To be fair I don't slate a player before he joins anymore. I absolutely battered the signing of Watmore. Yet couldn't have been more wrong. I'd throw Bamba and Peltier into that.

That or we sign someone proven who turns out to be sh*t. You simply never know. If mcgoldrick scored 8-10 goals its a great return on a free. If not he leaves for nothing.

It's not like being stuck with Uche and Akpom (f*ck knows if we can move either on).

We’ve had an eye on promotion or promotion through the playoffs. We’ve still got work to flak and these two aren’t even through the door yet. A marked improvement on previous years.

Bamford scored 17 goals in 38 games 2014/15 Impressive!!

11 goals in 39 games In 2017/18

Crooks score 11 for us last season..

16 goals and 6 assists to recover from last season.

McGoldrick scored 4 goals and made 2 assists
Let’s say Gayle doesn’t contribute at all.

We still only have to make up 12 goals and 4 assists!

Joao scored 10 goals and made 3 assists last season over 24 games.

2 goals and 1 assist from a mystery striker and we’re looking pretty good!

I think it makes sense, low cost, low risk and a player that can open teams up, which we lack.

Don't expect him to start many games, but will play a part from the bench.
 
My impression of Wilder is that he is building a meritocracy and if Mcgoldrick is signed he will be part of a group of 5 up top. If he is scoring goals he will start ahead of those who are not, including Armstrong / Gyorkeres if they are the marquee signings.
 
If the manager is looking at 75 goals this season then it obviously won’t be mcgoldrick I thinks will contribute so Gayle and at least 1 more maybe 2 will be coming in very soon
