Matt Hancock and the pantomime of PPE

Malaguena, I am of the opinion, right now, that any one who defends this government are either politically motivated to defend their ballot at the last election, or stupid. I can't see any other reason, I really cannot.

It was the "However, he said it was important to note that some may have caught it outside of work. " bit that got me - the state the UK is in and he's trying to deflect away from the fact that they've completely fcked up, and then lied, about PPE, by saying some health workers may have caught the virus outside work. I don't think it's "important to note" this at all

If I was to take a wild stab in the dark as to the probability of where a health worker caught the virus, it certainly wouldn't be "outside work", and this is the UK's fcking Minister of State for Health talking.

Fuming

After watching that video, thanks SM, the first word that comes to mind is "see you next tuesday"

It was proven that government representatives were at the procurement meetings on 3 occasions and we said no thanks ! It's tantamount to corporate manslaughter!
Absolutely nail on head - this is the equivalent of sending soldiers out to fight with spud guns, although having said that our armed forces have also been sent out on combat missions inadvertently kitted out for years. I really hope this shower are hung out to dry for this

And how the f#ck would they find that out when they are only testing in hospitals. Nobody those 19 people were in contact with will have been tested. I would sack him for that statement alone.

I thought he was doing ok until today but I think he’s lost credibility now and should be sacked.
But you know a significant thing happened today when the Queen felt the need to reassure the nation - that’s a sure sign that she and her advisors think the government is struggling badly, which it is.

The way Hancòck and Patel have conducted themselves today is a disgrace - beggars belief what they’re coming out with now

Spot on BR14, there are only a limited number of mask manufacturers and they mainly supply the industrial market. You can't just decide to buy millions of masks at the drop of a hat and expect them just to be sitting in a warehouse somewhere when global demand is unprecedented.

It's just naive to think that...
Tell that to half the people on this thread!!

Excuses excuses, the government is paying for over celebrating its get Brexit done election at the point it should have been looking at Wuhan and taking actions to get ahead of the game.

We all saw this coming from China, you just had to watch the BBC news every night In January. The lack of preparation by the Tories was so poor that it’s actually a bit baffling. Look at Rishi’s budget only delivered on the 11March. Tories on here saying how good he is, well I think that budget delivered just days before the part lockdown makes him (and Johnson) look ridiculous and incompetent now.

FatCat is just a shameless Tory apologist who puts party ahead of the lives of people.

You are right- they should have been ordered 4 years ago when it was found that the NHS couldn't cope with a pandemic. There had been enough warnings on pandemics/epidemics such as SARS, MERS,Ebola
We don't stand our armed forces down just because there is no war. We should be prepared.

AB they had less time to prepare, and to be honest, should we be comparing ourselves with the worst performing nations? I would liek to think we want to be world leaders, not also rans.
Less time to prepare - how so?

Stop taking the ****. I've just picked up on this. Last night on the Priti Patel thread.

People really don’t like her - what has she supposedly done to stir up so much hatred?

Do you seriously have to ask that question?

Never called anybody a troll before. This is the first time.

easy to say in hindsight - did any other country have a stockpile ready four years ago?

Taiwan did. And then got 61 new producers up and running by the start of February, making enough for the whole population every two days.

It was recommended we did but the money wasn't available when Hunt was secretary of state.
