Martin Braithwaite on his Boro departure

I’m sick of seeing this ex-player appearing in the Gazette. He is always trying to justify his actions and to be quite honest I would rather just forget all about him.

If he had been a good servant to Boro then fair enough, but he wasn’t, I know the Gazette are desperate for copy in these quiet times but I would rather they did a feature on an ex Boro player who actually was liked and did something for us, there are plenty of them about.
Totally agree foggy, there's enough information out there of past players who served the Boro & didn't make it & since forged a career outside football, I woukd be more interested in a story like that than a player who has no interest other than money

I honestly believe that after monk if he had brought in say someone like jokanovic or somebody who likes good attacking football vraithwaite would have been a success at Boro he would of enjoyed his football

I think this is where his argument about not fitting in falls flat. Woodgate was promising attacking football before the start of the season and offered out an olive branch to Braithwaite, yet he still wanted out. Think the reality is he just never settled here, and probably thought he was 'too good' for the club.

I've always said, to an extent we did misuse him on the pitch. I remember when he came back into the side following his injury, there was a period where Monk played him up front alongside Britt, and if I remember rightly we won 4 games on the bounce, our best run of form under Monk. Monk then had him in and out of the team, and playing out on the wing. He needed to be used as a striker or no 10.

Again, the following season Pulis gave him a run in the side alongisde Britt and we won four games on the bounce, then after the window closed Pulis went with Hugill on his own up front, and Braithwaite wide left playing in a 4-5-1. Of course even playing in that role he should have performed better, and a lot of it probably was down to him not being fully committed to the cause, but I can't help but wonder whether things could have been different had he just been used as a striker.

He's just scored, damn it.
Good goal, to be fair.

Cos I love Barca and Messi in particular I am gonna have to put my Braithwaite hatred to one side as it feels strange wanting him to fail but wanting everyone else to do well. Good finish tbf to him, he will always be able to say he’s played with the GOAT and now even got an assist off him, the lucky snakey sod.

I think it was inevitable that he'd score when he's playing for a team like Barcelona.

As much as I dislike him, he's not a bad player and they're playing relegation fodder.
He's bound to be well up for it too, probably still can't believe his luck.

Very true, he’s living the dream to be fair to him. If I could do 2 things in football it would be to play for the boro and score for boro and then play for Barca and play with Messi, this **** has done both. I still can’t get my head around it and the way he acted towards us as a club was unforgivable.

Decent finish from Braithwaite albeit not a difficult one.
Take Kubo the standout player in the first half, Messi a pleasure to watch as usual.

Messi bang up for it, keeps it up in the second half I can see one of them mazey runs resulting in a worldie goal.

Yes he’s just not had the space on the edge of the box to get his shot away after he cuts inside, he’s tried it a few times so far but had to lay it off.

I love how when he starts one of his runs his team mates just stop and stare like the rest of us, you can tell they are in awe even during the game.

Messi absolutely sublime, what a joy it is to watch him play football. Gonna be a sad day when he hangs up his boots.

I'd just turned it off before Messi scored because my stream kept freezing, b***r.

A goal and 2 assists on his first game back, phenomenal player.

Dropped for tonight's game against his former club that they dodgily stole him from.

But I'd guess that's to avoid any controversy if he had scored against them, rather than a slight on him, sadly.

There's a load of people on this thread being pathetically bitter and petty because they didn't like his "attitude" when he was pi55ed around by Pulis/Boro

Braithwaite is an excellent footballer - it doesn't matter what injury crisis Barca had, he wouldn't have got a move there unless he was. Good luck to the lad (y)

Because he deserved it
I for one am not interested in one iota how he's performing or for who, I would far sooner read about a young lad who didn't quite make it at the Boro but forged a life for himself, either in football or a different challenge entirely
I don't think you can call his talent but you can call his attitude which many have
Hignett was messed around by Robbo but was a total professional
