Man City and Roberts

They clearly don't think he'll make it...certainly looks like Neil Warnock agrees. I, personally, think he'd make a decent champo player, but his wages have effectively destroyed his career.
Celtic fans rate him, but they play pub team's most weeks.
I assume he'll effectively start his career when his City contract runs out. The agent will have enjoyed his career more than the player (again). Dreadful really

I cannot understand why he is still here. Unless his contract with us expires on the 31st Jan. Whatever the reason he need to go as he just takes a seat up on the bench.

I can only assume he can't leave until a certain date or his agent is trying to find him a new club. I guess he can stick around and keep fit and get paid.

He's probably on anywhere between 10-20k a week (rough guess as 4yr City deal).

Just love him on and use those wages for a player who will at least challange for the first team. I think Watmore was probably the final nail in his coffin.

There must be some issue when he cannot get a game no matter who we play. I have never warmed to him, he needs far to long on the ball to be effective.

Yup, lack of any end product. Mazy dribble, shoot into stand; mazy dribble, tackled; mazy dribble, fall over, repeat.
You forgot to mention smashing the ball into the shins of the defender standing right in front of him. Otherwise bang on assessment.

In Roberts’ defence, he played a fairly pivotal role in helping us to stay up with his best game being the goal and assist against Reading in July. He’s barely had an opportunity since then. Like any player, it’s hard to get into any kind of form with barely any minutes on the pitch so it is unfair to judge him too harshly on his performances this season. Assombalonga and Akpom have had far more ineffective games than Roberts has had this season yet they keep getting third, fourth and fifth chances to impress yet Roberts gets left on the bench. We don’t know what happens on the training pitch but from a distance Roberts doesn’t give the impression that he is a malign influence or a big time Charlie. Yes Geoffrey Boycott’s Mam can tackle better than him but he does seem to have a decent attitude. The biggest mystery is why he didn’t come on for the last twenty minutes against Sheff Wed when they were defending with 11 men behind the ball as he would not have had to do any defending. I am sure he will make a name for himself somewhere in the Championship or MLS next season. It’s a shame we couldn’t find a system to coax the best out of him.

‘Roberts had the chance to win it with 15 minutes to go, but after a great run into the area from the right, he scuffed a weak shot that was easily saved by keeper Rafael Cabral.’

If Roberts leaves this month this is how he will be remembered.

Robert's has an abundance of talent, we were raving about him last season, well some were.
He offers what we don't have, someone that can beat a man and carry the ball.
There is some player in there make no mistake, it's just how to unlock it and how to set a team up to accommodate him without weakening defensive areas.
I think he could make a real difference

Obviously not a Warnock type player. Without him last season, as pointed out, we may now be in league 1.

Doesn't look that likely.

Even if he hadn't played and we'd lost against Reading (the only match he had had a big impact on), we'd have been 2 points above the drop with 2 games to go.
He did nothing in the those following games anyway.

As it turns out, we'd have stayed up even if we'd lost to Reading, still to Cardiff and lost to Sheffield Wednesday.

If you take away his other 2 assists earlier in the season, we'd still have finished 1 point above the drop.

I thinks it’s harsh to look at it like that. We don’t know how much that Reading result impacted other teams by putting more pressure on them etc. I think we should praise Roberts for what he did last season. He also won a penalty against Derby in a draw which helped us to another point. I would let him go this month because he’s not getting a chance and would replace him but I was pleased enough with his contribution last season and it would of obviously been greater if it wasn’t for the injury

He didn't do that much, so I'm not going to say he saved us from League One.

Take away every contribution he made and we still stay up.
Obviously it's a simplistic way to look at it, but it's in response to saying we may be in League One without him.
As bad as he was, you could argue the same for Gestede as their direct goal contributions both led to 4 points.

Two of the teams that stayed up (Luton and Barnsley) were in the relegation zone when we beat Reading, so I'm not sure us losing is going to galvanise them less.

I get what you mean mate. But feel like that assist against Stoke was vital, if we don’t score that goal who’s to say we are gonna get a second goal? Goals change games. I agree he wasn’t outstanding but I think he did play his part in keeping us up. I would let him return to city though and sign someone who we will use, he hasn’t cut it in his limited appearances this season.

Feel we are being harsh on the lad, probably not a Warnock type player but a very talented player non the less

It has to be workrate (on the pitch and more so training) and ability to follow instructions.

We've heard NW say he likes Tav in that role because he will track his runner. Think that's pretty damming to say Roberts won't. Also he's done nothing but praise Watmore about his workrate in training and how he runs more than anyone else. You don't here that about Roberts.

I think last season under woody was a missed opportunity due to injuries. He did look really bright in some games but you have to question end product and we signed him with a dodgy injury record.

We've had a good season based on graft. I don't think he fits the style or tactics. It's odd as to why we Brought him back?

I wish him well and 'thanks' for the Reading goal👏 (as important as Rhodes goal at Bolton). I won't miss him cutting in off the right wing and running accross the box and scuffing a shot straight into a CB (when he's had 1 or 2 opportunities to get the shot off).

He could just be a serial loan player who will never settle. He maybe needs a permanent move somewhere just to 'feel at home'. He had a worldie first season at Celtic (they called him Messi) then an injury ravaged second and he's not been the same since. He hasn't done it with us or Norwich.

I think his problem is that he hasn't been able to adapt his play enough to fit the way Warnock want to play ie getting the ball forward quickly when we turn the play over - Roberts very much tends to slow the pace of out attacks.

He still might get there but I can see why warnock doesn't fancy him at the moment
