Lyle Taylor

For a striker age is largely irrelevant look at Glen murrray goals is what we need if he can get them however how short his spell is then is go for it.

I would be surprised if any of our lads did that to be honest as they all are on a .Decent wage so if they extend it they will probably still be getting the same wage where as if they leave you would fancy they wouldn’t be getting what they would here. I reckon all our lads will stay on until season end. Only one I’m not sure on is Gestede.

I would be surprised if he came here tbh.
His refusal to play beyond his contract may have more to do with his new employer than his current one though. They may have told him not to, if something has been agreed in principle. There would be hell on if it was us he was coming to. Bowyer would have a dicky fit.
I can’t see Palace signing him, he isn’t suddenly Premiership class at 30. I can see opportunities for him at a decent Championship level, maybe a Brentford or even Fulham or QPR If he wants to stay down sarf.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if some of our out of contract players did it though.
Play one game ,get a career threatening injury, a lot to consider to be fair, player's might already have a 2-3 year deal lined up. That's a big consideration when you are reaching the end of your career.

Wouldn't normally say this.. but with such a young squad, I see his age as a plus.. we've lacked a bit of experience at times.
Yes I can understand that comment & rightly so, plus we need players of his ilk but not for me, if he refuses to play for Charlton then it's a no go for me, could we benefit out of this, only if we win enough games

I wouldn't blame any player for refusing to sign what effectively would be a 9 game contract- why would you, given the risks involved.

I suspect in most cases, ours included, only the players that will re-sign contracts will be playing, such as Howson, with a long term contract already in place (albeit maybe not announced).

A tricky one, but players have short careers and that will surely be the deciding factor.

Yes good point regarding his employer may have told him, we'll never know

If he has signed a contract for another team wouldn't it be known?
Probably, I made the initial comment that we don't want players who down tools, we've had enough of those, then read coluka post & thought yes maybe he's been told not to play from the next club

Would love to see Howson commit himself to staying at the Boro, fingers crossed it happens

Free to buy but he’s 30 and this will be his last big contract and payday so I reckon it’s all down to who can give him most wages. Palace rumoured to be in for him.

He's not had a big contract or pay day in the past, he'll not be getting one now either. He may be a bargain for a couple of years though.

He's apparently changed his mind and will play for them now.

I wonder if his decision is linked to Charlton's owners changing.
Either that or the sheer level of abuse he's received.

Or they've dropped a few extra thousand on top of what he was already getting paid ..

If he was a Boro player id want him sacked, he should honour his contract

I haven't read into it massively, but wasn't he only saying he wouldn't play beyond the end of his contract?

ie he's out of contract end of June, so any games in July he was refusing to play?
