Lukas Engel - can we get an update?

Engel and bangura back the end of this month. That might be interesting.

Bangura is absolutely not back at the end of the month, it's just a site guessing.

He had surgery on his achilles, he'd surely be lucky to even be back in full training for months yet.

Carrick described him as a long term injury as recently as the 25th of October.

Same for Tommy Smith.

Tommy Smith returned to pre-season training in June.

I don't think he did, he took no part in Portugal or any of the friendlies.

He's still in rehabilitation for a ruptured achilles.

He's not even been back on the grass yet.

He gave an interview on the 72+, a BBC Podcast, recently:

"I'm on the road to recovery and hopefully I'll be back on the grass again sooner rather than later, I want to get fit as soon as possible. I've absolutely hated every single minute of this rehabilitation."

"I'm a firm believer that it will make me stronger mentally. But I just want to get back on the grass. I crave that routine of going in on a Monday morning and preparing for a game on a Saturday."

Might be mixing him up with Lenihan?
He did come back and his body broke down again in pre-season.

Bangers is due to miss most if not all of the season. Tommy Smith being injured long term is a tricky one as he is out of contract in the summer. Lenihan defo had a further setback in the summer as it led to us bringing in Dael Fry.

I agree - I don't think we will see Smith again
It was that crazy tackle in a friendly against Real Betis which set up the 1st Injury and the 2nd one seemed to come on the back of it a couple of months later just after his return. We all have moments we wish we had done differently , however we might not have seen Ayling if he had stayed injury free.

Exactly, I think in a way it has been a bit of a sliding doors moment for us becoming better balanced. I imagine if Smith had stayed fit all of last season we would have gone all out to sign Giles this summer as it seemed to work so well with them 2 as our full backs. Having Ayling though, offering something completely different to Smith, negated the need for an ultra attacking left back.

Is Engel really injured or taken out of the firing line awaiting sale ?
Yeah am not convinced he is injured, he is a real confidence player and it would appear he is home sick and struggling with the pressure at times, he wants to do so well and at times has shown he can play but he is such a worrier and it transcends to his performances on the pitch

He's been back in Denmark, not sure if he has returned to the UK as I haven't really been looking to see if he's been travelling with the squad or training. Down to personal issues rather than injury, though.

Smith is third choice right back now, out of contract at the end of the season. Can’t see him playing for Boro again.

Borges has been absolutely fine and Dijksteel was comfortably man of the match last night?
Dont agree borges has been just
about ordinary to say the least not terfibke but certainly not too good but altetnatively he hasnt been long here to fully settle in but not co vinced in him at all
