London stations

Have you seen the story on the bbc homepage about the woman with terminal cancer who won’t see her sister at Xmas?

have some empathy.
of course there will be people in that situation and allowances should have been made in exceptional circumstances, but blame the people who have been doing whatever they like for months on end as to why we are under these restrictions.

What about empathy for the 50000 families that have lost someone this year, the thousands that will loose family members over the next few months, the ones who will loose their jobs or businesses due to the next lockdown this will cause, the further mental health issues caused by the following months of restrictions. The more people who break the rules the more people will be impacted and the longer we will be living like we currently are

He's talking about empathy for people who haven't seen family members since March; people on their own who are suffering and struggling, not the people who brazenly do what they like and have ignored rules from the day one.

I’m not blaming anyone.
Blaming people achieves nothing.
This is a mental health pandemic as well. That’s been forgotten about.

The mental health pandemic affects millions - a darn sight more than the 60k people who were already poorly and finished off by covid.

I’m out of here. I come here to read up on my beloved football team and to see what others think of what’s going on in the world.

since the tier 4 story broke I’ve read stuff on here that beggars belief.

I’ve had help and support for my struggles over the past few years and generally find this a welcoming online community. To know that others struggle with their mental health has helped me enormously.

I guess this virus has changed everyone. And not for the better in some cases.

Your last paragraph is not very empathetic is it?

Anyway, there’s absolutely someone to blame - the gutless, directionless, pusillanimous Government of the U.K. that has completely failed to govern effectively, wasted an inordinate amount of money, shown zero leadership and bungled decision after decision.

I said in my first post that its also about mental health issues, but these are caused by lockdown restrictions. The more cases we have which will be spread as a result of what we saw in London yesterday, then these lockdown restrictions carry on even longer, thus causing even more problems.

Thats hardly a very compassionate statement about those who have died either, it might have been people mainly who were already ill but certainly people have died before their time, lets not just think it has only killed people with a few weeks to live. What about the impact of these deaths on their family members/friends knowing their loved one has suffered and died on their own?

Always tricky to generalise and I’m sure, for the vast majority this wasn’t the case.

Yesterday a husband and wife put a picture of their 25 year old son on twitter.
He lives away from them.
He had lost his job, his partner split with him and he had been on his own for weeks
He took his life.
That’s an example, albeit extreme, of A consequence of being compliant.

I’ve driven to north London and back this morning to bring my son back. I would put him in the ‘fragile’ category.
I’m sure the great and the good will be on here to slaughter me.
I will firmly be put on the naughty step as one of the ‘selfish ones’

it will be like water off a ducks asre.
I was being nothing other than curious as to why travelling last night was seen as being somehow better than travelling today or tomorrow or whatever.

It’s a fact isn’t it? 60k deaths and most had underlying health conditions ?? Not sure where empathy comes into it ??? Of course I’m sorry for those who’ve lost family ffs. A close friend of mine lost his mother with dementia who lived in a care home. Over and out.

This has turned into a sad thread, with fellow Boro fans attacking each other, when we all basically want the same thing - to be able to safely see our loved ones at Christmas.

Come on chaps, can we all not be quite so quick to jump down each others' throats, with the same going for resisting the temptation to very quickly be offended and leave?

I know that fella - Just wanted to give an insight on one, albeit extreme, reason

Voice of reason. The whole F***ing thing is just sad.

We don't know peoples individual circumstances, but all they are doing is spreading the virus further which will cause further deaths/illness, can people justify this especially when we are in the process of vaccinations and things will be much improved in a few months?

A further lockdown wasn't inevitable if people had respected the rules, but they simply havent and now we are looking at months of further uncertainty. And scenes like this will only make things worse in the long term for all of us.
JM your post is utter nonsense. We are NOT where we are today because a tiny minority flouted the rules please stop excusing this government for ALL responsability for where we are now.

Lockdowns were inevitable the minute we didn't close our borders and sold our pandemic response to serco and other private organizations who don't have pandemic experience.

Lockdowns have nothing, I repeat nothing to do with compliance.

Apart from some tarted up touristy or very posh bits, the rest is horribly bleak.

That's funny. I've lived down here 8 years and see it the exact opposite way around. Wouldn't really ever bother with the tourist places but I've found loads of other lovely areas to visit. I didn't realise before living down here how many parks South London has.

Yes but Chris Witty actually did say if they had cases packed, then they should unpack them, so the people are to shoulder their portion of the blame in that respect.
Because that is obviously an example of incredibly responsible governance and a man we should all listen to and respect.

"Unpack your cases" ffs man 🤣. The brass neck. Condescending c--t.

It's funny how easily the government pull some peoples strings.

Anyone doing what Boris said to do on Wednesday is selfish and uncaring. Anyone doing what Boris said to do on Saturday is a good egg.

Thank you. I got the feeling I was talking in a foreign language when I tried to explain this on another thread. Not sure why it was ignored when I said similar repeatedly. Well put

Because he completely u turned. If you disagree with spreading the virus because its Christmas, like I do, you'll disagree with him saying it was "inhumane " to cancel Christmas during the week and agree with him when he completely reverses his comments and puts tighter Christmas restrictions in.

Motorways are busy too according to an AA Map I looked at earlier - difficult to judge but heavier than I'd have expected for a Sunday with congestion on a few routes heading off the M25 towards the midlands etc
