London stations

In reality, many may not necessarily be Londoners, they may well be northerners who reside there temporarily, that said, your last sentence (2 words) is correct. The Government have been totally naive at best though. I think the publics response was entirely predictable and should have been pre-empted. It lays down the groundwork to enable the Government to blame the public and dodge some of the blame. In truth, I’d sooner trust a chocolate fireguard to do its job properly. They needed to be draconian earlier in the week. They left the stable door ajar unfortunately.

Some families will live to regret this decision unfortunately and hospitals around the country will now be affected in all sorts of regrettable and unforeseen ways. Cancer treatment will be set back, operations put on hold, screening see longer waiting times as hospitals and their staff plan for covid increases that will inevitably follow. This madness is a long way from being done and some of the great British public do seem more bothered about Christmas dinner and a few after dinner mints, beers, wine and spirits than waiting a few more months till vaccinated.

Carry On Covid, Britains got your back!!
Well said - the selfish ones either don’t see the impact of their behaviour or they do and just don’t care!

If we're still in Londoner-baiting mode, I'll tell you something else in their favour - unlike us, they didn't vote to f**k the country up with Brexit. Some of us on here need to wind our necks in with the accusations and slurs. And I'm not even that fond of the place!
Point taken. I've not necessarily expressed myself well in this thread

Plenty of people up here not following the rules and brazen about it, they treat you with sympathy if you follow the rules, like you are a bit nervous about the whole situation.

There is a lot of preemptive nonsense on this thread about selfish people, from posters who have no idea why those people were travelling. A sick relative a dying parent.

Peoples need to judge others and then blame them is very sad to see but the government will be lapping it up.

If lockdown carries on everyone would eventually break the rules as the effect deepens. For some that had already happened.

The lack of empathy and understanding of what lockdown is doing to some people is staggering.

Would those critics of people put up with a total lockdown for 1,2,3 or 6 months? Everyone's needs are different and just because you haven't reached your breaking point doesn't mean others haven't due to different circumstances. In a city of 7 million a handful felt the need travel for reasons no one on here knows.

You do not know anyone’s circumstances

Don’t blame people for wanting to see family.

Don’t call them selfish.

Worth also remembering spreading this will mean some will never see their family again.

What we saw yesterday will likely mean the entire country is in full lockdown in a few weeks time.

I think we all know that the whole country will be in lockdown in January but can we please stop getting holier than thou when hundreds of people descend upon a railway station. They could be travelling for any number of reasons

There are lots of scenarios - driving in your own car and staying in seperate accommodation is pretty risk free. Dominic Cummins and Boris Johnson said it was fine.

Other scenarios will not be.

There are some awful choices to be made. Sitting down on your own is very depressing for a lot of people at Xmas. I think there are more suicides then, than any other time of the year.

I'd be interested to know what they were thinking because they were breaking tier 3 rules by travelling last night.

Always tricky to generalise and I’m sure, for the vast majority this wasn’t the case.

Yesterday a husband and wife put a picture of their 25 year old son on twitter.
He lives away from them.
He had lost his job, his partner split with him and he had been on his own for weeks
He took his life.
That’s an example, albeit extreme, of A consequence of being compliant.

I’ve driven to north London and back this morning to bring my son back. I would put him in the ‘fragile’ category.
I’m sure the great and the good will be on here to slaughter me.
I will firmly be put on the naughty step as one of the ‘selfish ones’

it will be like water off a ducks asre.

We don't know peoples individual circumstances, but all they are doing is spreading the virus further which will cause further deaths/illness, can people justify this especially when we are in the process of vaccinations and things will be much improved in a few months?

A further lockdown wasn't inevitable if people had respected the rules, but they simply havent and now we are looking at months of further uncertainty. And scenes like this will only make things worse in the long term for all of us.

Have you seen the story on the bbc homepage about the woman with terminal cancer who won’t see her sister at Xmas?

have some empathy.

I am sure that most people will fall into one of these groups;

1. Abide by the guidance provided
2. Know the guidance, but break it, taking mitigating action first. i.e. self isolating
3. Ignore the guidance, believing their circumstances are more important than the extra risk
4. Ignore the guidance, because they are above the law
5. Haven't a clue that there is a pandemic and wondering why the pubs are shut.

It doesn't matter which of these you fall into and I make no judgement about it as we all have our reasons.
However we have to try to continue to survive through the next few months and petty arguing does not help the situation.
People will continue to believe in their own actions regardless. We have lots of viewpoints North vs South vs London, political arguments etc. These are all pretty pointless, we have a government implementing guidance based upon medical advice. This may be right or it may be wrong but we have no other option unless someone wants to arrange a revolution.

Live life together, or at a distance, care for others and be considerate and together we will get through this.
