London stations

Announcing a midnight London lockdown at 4pm was always going to end in this happening.

People had no other choice as they have been told not to leave a Tier 4 area and judging by the reports a vast majority of those people had suitcases, so likely not going for one last bevvy up but travelling home for Xmas.

Government again dropping the ball
People did have a choice though.

We’ve now cancelled all our Christmas plans and are just going to stay at home. We’re all gutted, and my kids aren’t going to see their grandparents or cousins, but we don’t have a choice.

Its the sensible choice anyway. Well done mate it'll be worth it in the long run

This was pretty bad

officials announced that "social distancing will not be possible" in the packed train.

Surely closing the stations and halting train services for 24hrs would have helped prevent the transfer of the virus around the country.
What about commuters and Xmas Shoppers though, they would have been stranded, the issue is the people travelling to another part of the country for Christmas.

Not just the trains but the main roads out of London were packed too a family member was travelling back home before it kicked in the a1 & m11 north was all tailbacks.

Apparently the m3 m4 & m1 were just as bad too it was like a mass exodus.

I agree very very selfish & stupid the really sad thing is they are probably heading for tier 2 areas so they can still go to the pub without a single thought for anyone else.

Rocket science this is not stay at home ffs

London isn't really one place, it's a conglomerate of lots of towns gathered together under one label, each with their own culture and feel.

Although understandable, given the London-centric nature of business and especially MSM reporting (if I lived in Scotland I'd definitely feel as if my life was ruled from a foreign country, watching BBC News), this "Us Vs Them" attitude only serves to portray us all as chippy northerners with a grudge.

See loads of Londoners decided to flock to other area's of the country last night, so bringing the "new" virus around the country. Selfish TVVATS

In reality, many may not necessarily be Londoners, they may well be northerners who reside there temporarily, that said, your last sentence (2 words) is correct. The Government have been totally naive at best though. I think the publics response was entirely predictable and should have been pre-empted. It lays down the groundwork to enable the Government to blame the public and dodge some of the blame. In truth, I’d sooner trust a chocolate fireguard to do its job properly. They needed to be draconian earlier in the week. They left the stable door ajar unfortunately.

Some families will live to regret this decision unfortunately and hospitals around the country will now be affected in all sorts of regrettable and unforeseen ways. Cancer treatment will be set back, operations put on hold, screening see longer waiting times as hospitals and their staff plan for covid increases that will inevitably follow. This madness is a long way from being done and some of the great British public do seem more bothered about Christmas dinner and a few after dinner mints, beers, wine and spirits than waiting a few more months till vaccinated.

Carry On Covid, Britains got your back!!

What point are you trying to make? Smalltown is absolutely right, people on here's attitude towards people from outside the North East is often pathetic and equal part hilarious.
The point is, and it's not a sophisticated one, is that London is a shytehole for most, but some of those who live there dress it up as a place like no other and certain individuals (not all) see living there as having made it in life. They pay their price. ST is always the first to bring the chip on shoulder remark up, either that or his humble brags

If you live there and enjoy it, that's great, horses for courses

What annoys me about this is that in some perverse way they believe that they are following the rules by doing this. They are just selfish idiots, no doubt the trains were packed with standing room only this more spreading of the virus. I believe the train companies should have a responsibility here. To limit the number of tickets sold but money always comes over welfare of others!

Yep you are right.

Reading more reports a lot saying they where escaping from the Tier 4 restrictions for Xmas.
There will have been commuters mixed up in this as well but how many it`s impossible to tell

Vicious times and applaud you on your difficult decision, it can't have been easy
