Life after Steve Gibson

Maybe he'll hand down to his daughter? Maybe we'll be sold off.

If we're in the premier league there will be plenty of suitors, it's rare that a premier league club is available for purchase these days, and with good due diligence it could be a positive new era.

Leicester City were no bigger than us when they got bought out, same for Wolves and both provincial sides, both established in the prem with good financial backing.

The truth is that unless Gibson writes off debt to self, then nobody will pay much for a club that is worth way less than nothing as things stand.
Even if Gibbo sold all the current playing assets off and paid himself back, the market value above book value of the players wouldn't cover the current negative nett book value of the club.

Established in the PL, Steve would have a squad (intangible assets) worth enough above book value to offset the debt more.
He'd also point to PL revenues and PP's that have real value.
And there would be some sort of Goodwill premium for being a much higher profile club again.

Boro would become very saleable again in the PL.

Do you think Barnsley are a bigger club than us ???

For context - we were told that outside investment was the way to go and that Barnsley were a case of reference for how it could be - if only Gibson would weaken his ownership and guidance of Middlesbrough FC - that without that we were forever going to be chasing dreams and never achieving them - Barnsley was were it was at, proof of what could happen to Boro, if only we would get off our knees and join the gravy train.

Barnsley Football Club - the land of Milk & Money, Honey.

Failure, Failure, Failure ...

We're 16th according to this page :

Thats 16th with disadvantage of being notoriously difficult to get to for away support. Those north wedt, sheffield and midland clubs have lots of clubs in close vicinity for other fans to travel in big numbers thus swelling the home attendances. We also only won one major cup. Cant say we are glort supporters!

Unless a large amount of the debt is written off it is difficult to see a future at all. No one would want to take on the club and the alleged £120 million plus debt.
There is no debt Steve Gibson is adamant about that and also that there is a succession plan, although he is not intending to go anywhere if he can help it

Rob just stop it with the "no debt".
Gibson may have no intention at present of ever recalling the £142m the Club owes the Parent Group and that sits as Bulkhaul asset.
But the club DOES owe it, it is absolutely debt.
If Bulkhaul encountered huge problems (unlikely) then we would see that the debt is real.

If Gibson were looking to sell the club then the debt would be extremely real.

I can see Steve Gibson owning the club for another 10 years what is he 65? with a life expectancy of 85? For his age he seems quite healthy.

There are not a lot of clubs in the UK with over 21,000 season ticket holders despite it being an economically disadvantaged region and quite expensive tickets. In the last 28 years the number of season ticket holders has ranged from around 11k to around 30k, so the current number is not a peak in fact its close to the average.

Been located away from London or a major city is a disadavantage but not stopped say Sunderland having a number of foreign owners or Burnley or Blackburn.
