Leaving England

I'm off to China in a couple of weeks. Leaving the family behind, fingers crossed they realise this country is not what it was for them. Wouldn't mind going back to the UAE, ideally if I wasn't working Italy.

Maybe we could have some form of trading system for the ones who want leave (but probably won’t)

say you go online sign up saying you want to leave England. Then you get traded with someone or a family who wants to come. Example - family of 4 wants to leave (well probably just one of them but you get the drift) and you get traded with a family of 4 who want to come here. They get your house, you get theirs... bobs your uncle. Your out of here.

We'd like to be in Spain or Canaries too at some point. That said, the States might be more likely as my wife is from there. So whilst not sure on destination, the likelihood of remaining in the UK forever is slim. As much as I love many factors here, coast, countryside, some nice towns and cities, plus family and friends of course, I'd rather spend time in another country and experience a different culture. It won't be for a while, when there's nothing more I can give to and nothing more I can get from a place, that's when we'll go

Agree my brother lives in Dunedin, hoping to visit next year
Fingers crossed you get there, but don't spend all of your time down there, do a tour of the South Island, it's worth it. Pop up and see us in the Moutere, btw we are Airbnb, generous rates for boro fans

It won't surprise anyone to know that I'd like to spend more time in Northern Sweden, but I also love where I live in Yorkshire. I plan to split my years between Sweden, Yorkshire, Barcelona and the west coast of Corfu when I retire.

Who has ownership of the 'trading' , Coops ?

It could just be a gov.uk website where you sign up. You are matched with the 1st person or family that meets the same size as yours. No chance to reject it. Your told where your going and where you’ll be living. If your not gone by the time the new family arrive you get evicted.. easy

Stay right here, family, friends, beautiful countryside and lovely coastal villages
I live in one of the lovely coastal villages. At weekends we are invaded by little Englanders who have respect for nobody, terrorise local women and kids and then go home leaving the beach full of bottles and drug paraphernalia.

Quite the opposite for me, I moved back to the UK in January after 3.5 years in the USA.

Arguably the situation is as bad, if not worse over there, but I'm glad to be home. We live a relatively comfortable life and so the direct impact of a of of things you mentioned is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, but I'm conscious they are and will impact other people hard, and so I can see the attraction of trying somewhere else.

We could have gone to Switzerland instead of the UK, but as much as I love the place, there's certain things that wont be impacted by Bexit or COVID - the four seasons (something we didn't get in California), Christmas in the UK, a English summers day in the garden, sitting by a pub fire in a late Autumn afternoon etc. Sentimental cliched stuff, yes, but stuff I genuinely missed.
Switzerland would have been a good choice. I've a mate who used to live there and it was great. He's still got a decent sized house there and his wife is still working there as they are trying to get a Swiss passport.
They fly either way every two weeks to see each other etc

Hi caesium, I work in close protection and personal security, tend to mostly work in Iraq and Africa my next trip is to Angola.

Ah, my mate does that (he's ex REME I'm ex RAF, I work in oil and gas now did 5 weeks in Luanda last autumn, it was fine to be honest. Stay safe out there mate.

I will definetly get in touch when I'm all booked up, many thanks.
