Leaving England

Given the poor Covid response killing people and the upcoming brexit depression likely to cause misery, job losses and a downgrading of society, has anyone considered leaving England?

If so where would you plan to go?

Me, I REALLY want too go to Singapore. I absolutely love the place and the ex pat lifestyle out there. There are also a load of jobs in my industry so it wouldn't be too hard with VISAs etc. Sadly the other half won't move at all so I'm stuck here.

Be particularly interested to see who chooses another EU country!

A bit difficult for me, with my work I'm tied between the USA, UK and whatever country I'm sent to for my work stint (4 months on 4 off) ideally i would love to just up sticks and move to new Zealand where my brother lives.

We’ve talked about retiring to France for years and have looked at properties whilst we are out here.

It is funny though, spoke to a few French who would swap with us. Don’t know why.

Had plans to but thanks to Brexit its going to be a bit difficult. Still want to make it work if possible

Were they carrying Dinghies?

I think there is always a "grass is greener" vibe and nowhere is perfect. I just think now is the right time to leave the UK. It just feels nasty, divided and the projected future for my entire working life looks horrible.

What part of France are you looking at ?
You need to realise that a lot of the rural parts like the Dordogne may be paradise in summer but in winter can be very grim.

Quite the opposite for me, I moved back to the UK in January after 3.5 years in the USA.

Arguably the situation is as bad, if not worse over there, but I'm glad to be home. We live a relatively comfortable life and so the direct impact of a of of things you mentioned is relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, but I'm conscious they are and will impact other people hard, and so I can see the attraction of trying somewhere else.

We could have gone to Switzerland instead of the UK, but as much as I love the place, there's certain things that wont be impacted by Bexit or COVID - the four seasons (something we didn't get in California), Christmas in the UK, a English summers day in the garden, sitting by a pub fire in a late Autumn afternoon etc. Sentimental cliched stuff, yes, but stuff I genuinely missed.

Seasons is one of the things I would miss if I was able to move to Singapore. I like the changeable weather. Gives me something to moan about.

Yep, actively looking at the moment. First choice is probably Sweden, closely followed by anywhere in Europe which isn't England ;)

I loved Sweden, and worked there for a couple of years. Amazing in the summer, but pretty dark and depressing in the winter (and I was in Malmo, so not even that far north).
