Kieran Scott window review

I can’t remember a summer window like this since the good old days. Minimal outgoing, loads of incomings again. A lot of competition in every position, particularly in defence and in the wide positions, especially if we can get the injured players back in defence. If we can get everyone fit, expect some potential outgoing loans come January.

No doubt the club are going for promotions this season, that’s without doubt.
We’re at a point now where we have great depth, we have experience, we have players a couple of years just under their prime and we have young prodigal talent.

It’s quite hard to balance though now. If we don’t go up we’ve got 3 stars that other clubs will pay 50-60m for. But we won’t have a lot of space in our squad to invest without selling even more players. But we don’t really want to be buying and selling 7 or 8 players every year. Big year this year., now that we’ve kept Lath, Rav and Hackney

I think we can add Morris to that list of stars. Think he's gonna be worth a fortune by the end of the season if he carries on at this rate.

Would be great to get promoted with this squad.

Probably tripled in value in a handful of games already

the window aims seemed clear:

1 - keep our Crown Jewels. We did that, although touch and go on the last day. But it’s Gibson who put his foot down which is good and lath didn’t strip which is even better

2 - we suffered last season not having a back up for lath. We got that in Conway, at a good price and an age where he can really improve. Sounds like he was in our top twice targets. Other than rumours of back in for Cannon, we didn’t hear about anyone else

3 - we needed to replace Howson, we tried with Barlaser but he wasn’t the right level. We needed a midfielder who could break up play as well as keep possession, and we seem to have got our number one target, again a great age to improve

4 - we wonted to continue with Ayling leadership and experience and we got that despite more money offered by shed futd

5 - when Bangura got injured we got the guy who we wanted last year as our first choice left back before signing Engel and bangura

6 - Hamilton and hunt for the future but Hamilton can probably improve the squad now once settled.

The only one that doesn’t make massive sense is bergzorg. Certainly on a 4 year deal. He brings an unpredictability, but he seems a moody, greedy player to me. He’ll have moments but I don’t see him being here for the length of his contract.

the changing room has changed, we've got a new physio.. training pitches have been ripped up and replaced.. Carrick's brother's been brought in.. somewhere.
The training pitches were changed before last season - so there was a thought that last season injuries might have been linked to the new pitches. Possibly.

Crazy thing is.. Burgzorg makes the most sense. He is the most boro signing out of all of them. It’s in our DNA to have that unpredictable number 10

Moody - desperate for success
Greedy - hungry for goals and wins and to drive the team to victory.

I do think he would be better suited as a striker.. and that’s where his value to the team goes through the roof imo

I agree he’s better as a striker from what I saw last year, but still think he’ll be a bit of a duff signing. Might have the odd good moment but will be sold as a frustrating underachiever from what I’ve seen

Whoever identified or scouted Morris deserves a medal. God knows how that came about.

He looks an absolute bargain 👌
Was told by a good source just before he signed that Boro recruitment team felt they were getting the best player in the US league, certainly in terms of being above Championship level. They were very confident that he would be a Premier League player.

That’s precisely what I was getting at……NO I don’t expect a “Director of Football” to be putting the bins out, but from what he was saying he clearly looks into all matters at the club.
That's probably where your misunderstanding came from.
He is 'Head of Football' not 'Director of Football'.
Clearly two very different roles.
