Jordan Rhodes

I mentioned before that it amazes me how certain posters can identify the same poster under a different username, until now I've only spotted the one, but after reading the last few post I'm in agreement with Block21, MrDC is IMHO, BL, their writing styles are too much the same to be different posters

I didnt believe MrDC & BL were different posters even when others were saying they were one

I'm with you Erimus, I didn't used to know BL had other aliases but his writing styles in this thread and other threads yesterday have proven MrDC is BL, Block21 was right again!

Just about getting money back was the greatest bit of business since getting 2mil for Brad Jones😂

Very true 👍

In 136 games for various teams since first joining Boro, he has scored 24 goals ......
we criticise Britts record, but jeez nobody holding on to their sanity would want to replace Britt with Rhodes. It would be like Queen back in the day replacing Freddie Mercury with Dave Bartram, and I am no Britt fan.

I wouldn’t mind that he wouldn’t be able to make the step up, many players can’t but nothing wrong with being good at your level , but without being given that chance to do so I don’t think anyone could truly say.

People said that several managers couldn’t be wrong about Bamford after his loans when we brought him back but he scored for us and scored for Leeds in champo, people said he was never a premier league striker and now he’s on 9 premier league goals in 14 games.

Bamford is a proper footballer.
Rhodes is a tapper in who has forgotten how to.

Rhodes is a goalscorer but needs someone with him upfront - sadly he wouldn't fit into our system at the moment - needs a manager to play him and get his confidence back !

I think there is an element of the game that has passed forwards like Rhodes by. Teams don't play 2 up top in the same way anymore with a ball winner/ hold up and poacher with them. The focus now is dominating the middle of the pitch and the fitness for the team to go forwards and back as a unit.

Not many teams afford the luxury of a poacher anymore.

It’s easy to say he’s a proper footballer now he is in the premier league scoring against liverpool and Chelsea. When we bought him people were adamant that so many managers couldnt be wrong about him.

Cambs_red has got it spot on. Rhodes would have been far more successful if he had played 20 years earlier.

His career high was when he was playing alongside Gestede, feeding off his knockdowns. Ironically.

Just like Phillips and Quinn, there’s no chance Kevin Phillips would have had the success he did if he was playing now, up front by himself.

Although Michael Owen had a lot of pace in his early years, I’m not too sure how successful he would have been if he was playing now, he owed a lot of his success to playing off Heskey for Liverpool and England. Although he would still have been better than Rhodes as he had the extra attribute of rapid pace in his early years.

Owen would've been fine within most modern systems, being fed through balls by a no.10 or other quick forwards creating space. He was more than just a poacher.

Spot on mate.

Yeah as I said he had the additional attribute of pace so certainly wouldn’t have been consigned the championship as per Rhodes, but he certainly couldn’t have relied solely on through balls as if he did the other teams would just sit deep.

Playing alongside a target man helped The likes of Owen and Phillips hugely.
