Jordan Rhodes

Need Mr Warnock to make my day and bring him back on a loan deal, because he is out of contract in June.
No, too late, he can't cut it now

We've under achieved with buying good goalscorers here, were not going to resurrect a fallen strikers career that's for certain

It’s easy to say he’s a proper footballer now he is in the premier league scoring against liverpool and Chelsea. When we bought him people were adamant that so many managers couldnt be wrong about him.
And lots of us weren't remotely adamant about that.

Some absolute nonsense here. Let’s be clear. We signed Rhodes for £9m and paid him a huge salary.

Aitor would always leave it a few games before starting new signings. It was very rarely any other way. Despite that, in the Championship Rhodes was in the squad 19 times, starting 13 games and appearing in 18. That was out of a possible 19 games. He scored 6 goals.

We signed Negredo in the PL and played with one striker. Always did under Karanka. Rhodes, with the best will in the world, wasn’t close to Negredo’s level.

To argue that Karanka treated him shockingly or that his time at Middlesbrough destroyed his confidence is, frankly, laughable.

When everyone started playing 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 about 15 years ago, probably Mourinho who started it, strikers evolved a bit into 'forwards' didn't they.

Most strikers now are wingers who can shoot. Same as most full backs being wingers who can run all day and defend a little bit.

To play in the three you've got to be fluid, quick, able to create and score, technically brilliant, really intelligent and interchangeable and press like maniacs. Wind the clock back 25-30 years and people like Sadio Mane and Ronaldo and Rashford would be playing on the wing in a 4-4-2.

You still get the odd proper number 9 like Lewandowski or Aguero or Kane but they have to be exceptionally good. Even someone like Lukaku, who is superb, looks like a bit of an anomaly in a world of Rashfords who can do it all.

Jordan was missing most of those qualities, just not very athletic, couldn't hold the ball up, didn't play in the air. I remember him being slightly better than a pure fox in the box poacher but not that much better, certainly not worth playing up front on his own.

Same way you won't see maverick wingers like Ginola who just stand still and do their hair when they don't have the ball anymore, you won't see proper poachers like Defoe or Rhodes or Inzaghi much anymore when 99% of teams either do hard pressing or fast counter attacks.

I’d add to that to say there is also still a place in the game for strikers more akin to the old style target man, I.e players who may not be as skilful as you’ve described but better in the air such as Giroud, Chris Wood, Raul Jimenez etc

Warnock got the best out of flop players :)
Like Rudy and Britt?

Is it not enough that your super-hero manager Aitor Karanka though he was second rate.
If Warnock thinks he worth a punt then he will get his man - because no bu¿¿er else wants him.
Won't happen, Warnock might be old but he is not senile.
