This is the overview I just sent to my Luton fanatic mate and having just read through the thread I think it holds up to the opinion of most fans on here
Excuse the shocking grammar, typed in a flurry without my glasses on from the comfort of bed at 7am.
Well when he burst onto the scene after we plucked him from non league he was electric mate. Bursting past players and tying them in knots from both wings.
We felt he was much the better player than Djed Spence who spurs spent a fortune on because Izzy had a better mindset and less predictability.
Since then, he’s shown a mixed bag.
1. He’s a confidence player. When he’s loved and trusted and in the right head space there’s few better outside the prem. If he played like that consistently he’d be in the prem.
2. He will work hard defensively. A few cheap fouls in there but he can arguably play as a wing back and he does the hard yards without complaining.
3. He does play like what he is at times. A player who didn’t have proper academy training. This is a double edged sword as the lack of predictability confuses defenders who haven’t done their homework on him but he’ll lose focus and his touch can go or he can misplace a series of very simple passes or his technique lets him down more than average. Personally feel he was found out a little with his low crosses into the box and after an injury he lost either confidence or pace to beat his man consistently.
4. He had some mental health issues while with us when he became a father and when he lost some family members which resulted in time out of the squad being protected by management. His brother gets amongst the fans and isn’t shy of airing his opinion either which is a little odd but he’s a nice bloke too and just wants to support his brother. Since some of his troubles he’s apparently wanted to move back down south and possibly had his eye off the ball.
5. We got Ben Doak from Liverpool on loan who we might even struggle to keep hold of as he’s the best young winger around at the moment. Jones has barely had a sniff since he joined which is fair but it’s battered his confidence as he knows we want an upgrade.
6. He leaves with the best wishes of everyone because he always put his best in. Showed passion even during hard times. Delighted the fans with moments of skill and always stuck at it.
If you get the Izzy who’s confident in himself then I’d hate to come up against him and with improved belief and consistency he could even get you a profit or become a fan favourite.
If he struggles to impress early on and his head goes down then you might be confused by spending money on him. I’m unsure if he just needs a new lease of life or he’s been found out.
Look forward to seeing what he brings and hope he goes on to make it and you batter everyone of our rivals but not us
