Jones' miss

There's no agenda, he missed an absolute sitter that was impossible to explain, if it was any other player, the responses would be the same
They're in a minority but there's a few who definitely have an agenda against Jones.

There's at least a couple on this thread. One is advocating giving him away for free.

You think there'd be calls to get rid if it had been Hackney who missed it?

The fact that he is unbalanced is solely down to him, he could and should have composed himself , controlled the ball and made sure he put it in the net but he was casual and fluffed the chance.
Didn’t matter in the end but should be a learning process for Jones.
What a daft response.

I see the composure and casual argument but I did say above that I think he probably thought the ball was going in anyway but the defender was very quick and made a good last ditch clearance.

Anyway,I think this has been done to death now?

The defender wasn’t quick at all, he was stood slightly behind and to the side of Jones and only reacted when he saw Jones swing and completely miss the ball. Izzy even would have had time to stop himself and then tap it into the net, but he just panicked and took a wild swing. It was a terrible miss however you look at it, but luckily this time it didn’t cost us any points.

Can’t really see why this is still being discussed. He’s an important player who missed an easy chance. We’ve got a game tomorrow, and he’ll need our support, like the other 10 on the pitch.

keep on being Izzy, Izzy

I think we are sawing sawdust now, lets agree to disagree.

Name a worse miss by one of our players

I didn't say by our players; I don't even remember this David Currie miss.

The Ronnie Rosenthal miss, for me, is the worst miss I've seen because he had time to take a touch to control the ball once he'd gone past the keeper before putting the ball into an empty net. No one touch finish can compete with that.

We have 2 responses to this:

1. We accept everyone makes mistakes, that Jones's positives are much greater than his negatives, that he's an asset to the club and we move on.

2. He must never play for the club again, and needs to be beaten with sticks before being chased out of town.

I prefer the first option.

I like Jones he's done very well coming from non League football and he's an important player for us but in my 50 years of following Boro that is the worst miss I've ever seen......
Hope he scores tomorrow though, stranger things have happened.
Cmon Boro

But Jones didn’t just miss an open goal from three yards, he missed the ball as well - two for the price of one !

Ah, I see. You're saying it should count as -1 goals? Or is it you'd have been happier if he'd gotten a good strong contact and put it over?

Either we accept that it happened and move on, or we cut our nose off to spite our face here.

Hounding Jones over this can only harm the club.

I’m not hounding him - i like Jones and i think he’s done very well overall this season, but he’d be the first to say he should have buried that one

Does anyone have a video of the Currie miss. I guess I was probably there but can’t remember it at all.

The Bobby Thomson penalty - that I do remember!

There isn’t any video that I’m aware of unfortunately, and i have searched before for it - there are photos of just afterwards of the the crowds reaction and Curries though which is well worth a look m. Someone posted it on here earlier this week in fact

This, like Johnny's missed pen it is almost certain it won't have any effect on our final league position. One for the "hilarious" footie blooper videos.
If Boro miss out on the playoffs on goal difference it will be remembered.

It was the worst miss I've ever seen, but what's done is done. Just confine it to blooper videos.

Move on.

Plenty would, but mostly those that aren’t worth listening too. I’d be wondering about why we only took 2 points in the first 7 games
