Johnson to resign shortly it would seem

At least those who "quite liked Boris" can now see the person for who he actually is...

A charlatan, who in his entire career has put himself before anybody else every time. A person who thinks nothing about lying to achieve his aims and despite holding pretty important roles lacks the character, integrity and eye for detail required in those roles.

Johnson will be PM until there is a new PM, and he will have ALL of the powers a PM has until he actually no longer is PM.

Forgive my ignorance but what does that mean in practical terms? Presumably any legislation brought forward would not be voted through by the vast majority (or all?) of the sitting Tory MPs. Can he circumvent the party? Those Emergency Covid laws still knocking about anywhere?

This may be pure conjecture but trying to put myself in the shoes of a sociopath losing a grip on reality (and having completely lost control of his party), and this is what I'd be thinking...

And there are still plenty who are fine with that.

That is the key right there

All those worrying and looking at conspiracy theories that’s the real issue he’s lost the party and that only ever ends one way.

He’s gone.

You're probably right. But with Johnson nothing would surprise me. We all know he has no respect for convention and is happy to drive a coach and horses through the constitution.

Him promising to resign in October doesn't mean he'll definitely resign in October. The way his mind works I wouldn't be surprised if he was thinking he can use that time to make the case for him to carry on.

I think they'll probably force him to resign as PM today or later this week. But like I say, nothing would surprise me.

He’s gone WE ARE NOT AMERICA.

He’s lost the party even his own cabinet have turned on him.

It’s over.

There is no way back for him

This is my understanding also, he's caretaker PM until a new one is in place (or unless HE decides that he isn't, unlikely).

There's rightly a lot of pressure on him to step down immediately but those pushing for that outcome may back off for fear that he reverses his agreement to resign at all?

He still holds the majority of the cards in terms of leadership and, whilst it's generally agreed that caretaker PMs do not take significant policy decisions, the buck still stops with him and he is, in my opinion, highly likely to break with that tradition (as he appears to be doing this morning with the tease of tax cuts).

He doesn't play by the same rules as everyone else. It's astonishing how many (particularly those who "work" closest to him) seem oblivious to that and still keep getting caught out by it.

But he’s not a president

He’s lost his own cabinet.

You can keep telling us that mate, but until we see his resignation letter and hear his speech we cannot and should not presume that he will do the decent thing.
As quoted above, we have to have a PM and if he chooses to not step down down from the position then it will create a constitutional crisis and potentially get the Queen involved.
Does anyone categorically rule out the nuclear option of Johnson staying on as PM, calling a snap election and forcing the Tories to chose self-interest over their newly discovered morals?

Yes we can

He’s no longer header of the Conservative party he can’t call an election.

I've read a few people say the same, including Dominic Cummings. They basically think he'll use the next 3 months to try and find a way to hang on.
