Its not gone away 2

That depends were you are. Despite my name, I am living in North Devon. It is very busy with holiday makers, not sure how it compares to previous years, but there are long queues on Motorways and through the lanes.

That’s a good point that people might travel more recreational

that said if I travelled to Devon and back it’s be 700 miles. My week commute is 220 miles so would counteract 3 weeks of commuting. Ive been working from home for 4 months

I’m one person out of millions who now work from home/furloughed. Each one will have their own story.

Still think miles per person will be down personally

I’m in SW France at the moment. Been coming here for years - it is heaving ..... never known it so busy....with the French. Talking to a local cafe owner, I know, and he is raking it in
Same as UK I guess, they are largely travelling in their own country.

A) possibly which suggests that we have completely over reacted. Given that saving 3 months of life (which is what you're suggesting with point A) has to be balanced against completely destroying economic activity and the lives you lose as a result of missed cancer screenings, people not attending a and e with heart attack symptoms due to fear etc etc..

B) Anecdotal but I agree the city centres are very quiet.

C) can't agree with you here there's as many cars on the road as this time last year and if anything people are doing more things like hiking and outside activities that can lead to accident and death.

👍🏻
a) well if you chose money over the value of life thats your opinion. You can't argue that deaths are down but people are dying through not getting cancer screening...mutually exclusive.

b) It's not anecdotal, the hospitality sector has been impacted due to self isolation

c) driving as an example is factual, the government were even at one point detailing the amount of public and private journeys and it dipped below 30% at one point, I haven't seen recent, but I doubt it is back up to 100%

I wish I did.
Kids would be taught how to cook from scratch in schools.
Fast food places would be ran under the same licence rules as pubs and bars. No under 18's would be able to purchase.
The sale of tobacco products would be banned outright and stricter sentences for this caught selling and buying tobacco.
Kids would be taught how to look after their finances in schools.
so you would try to tackle health issues, except covid?

Given all that, it is fair to cut them some slack given we are now trending behind the 5yr average.
no it isn't, because excess death rate is above for 2020. When they show a return to normal levels for a significant period (e.g. 4 months as we have been above for 4 months) then we can cut slack and say this is under control.

straight back at ye fella
Nah I try to keep my facts sacred and reference the rest as opinions.

As for your comments about choosing money over life.. I'll remind you of that when the repossessions get going and millions are out of work unable to feed their kids.

It's ok for the retired I guess.

But that is really unfair - the government’s metric is the 5 year average. No one (apart from you) is suggesting taking 2020 in isolation. They took a 5 year average to flattened peaks and troughs.
We have a funeral business - there was a sharp decline last year.

At the French market today the sign read ‘strongly recommended’
There is a part which is under cover where it read ‘mandatory’

And, the gendarmes were around and booting out anyone without a mask - very impressive.

My issue is claims that just because the last 3 weeks death rate has been below average that doesn't mean we have beaten this, or that Covid is an overstated risk. Both are fallacious views. Our 2020 death rate is significantly above expectations, that coincides with Covid, that is significant. Now if we get 3 or 4 months of levelling out, we can start to claim we are controlling (not beaten) the virus, we're far from there yet.

We are looking at 2020, in isolation because there is a known new pathogen, and we can't make decisions based on metrics from 2018 when that virus didn't exist. We need to know how the now, compares with the norm, that is how you make decisions. We cannot wait until 2025, then compare 2020-2025 with 2015-2020, and then say now we have perfect data, analysis paralysis will cost lives.

It will be par for the course on here.

Also, 2 more weeks...

New list of potential symptoms released.

172 of them.

Please self isolate for 2 weeks if you experience any of these symptoms. Do it to protect others.

All that really gives credence too is that it’s a new disease we don’t know what it really does and we don’t know the long term effects of what it might do.

I think someone posted scar tissue damage on asymptomatic people has been found

I had pneumonia as a child which left a teeny tiny scar on my lungs.
