Its not gone away 2

It is to Cummings and Co, they just care about the economic situation.
Get back to work, spend money, make our mates rich.

What else should we be doing though? Living under house arrest waiting for something that isn’t going away to go away?

Of those 123 the vast majority are not hospital deaths. People at risk should be taking their actions and minimising their chances of getting it. That’s all they can do.

I understand we need to reestablish routines and try and return to normal but my point is that the government, and the majority of the population, see the deaths of 123 people as acceptable when they are attributed to Covid.

Is this acceptance down to boredom with it all? Is it down to the confused, mixed and slow messages from government? Probably a combination of both.

How would people react if that number died in a train crash, a plane crash or in a terrorist attack?

Not to be flippant but that wouldn't stop trains and planes.

Every single one of us is at risk so I agree people should be taking actions to minimise chances of getting it but unfortunately a lot of people won't do anything. In fact they'll do the opposite.

It would if it happened every day times 50 in countries around the world. But, I agree some statistics aren't comparable in this way, particularly as that number of deaths doesn't happen. (Two crashes of a new Boeing grounded all planes of that type though.)

I think this pandemic has shown that no matter what the situation is the 'im alright Jacks' of this world will do as they please

I will buy as much toilet roll as I want, I will go round families houses, I will join in a protest, infact, I will over take that car infront going 30MPH in a 30MPH zone because, well because I'm more important

Pretty sure the 737 Max is grounded at the moment because of two related crashes...
Pretty sure HSTs were all removed from service to check wheels for cracks after the GNER crash in the early 00s...

You’ve missed my point anyway. I was trying to raise the point that large numbers of people, grandmas, fathers, children, are dying yet there seems to be an acceptance of this.

It depends whether that number is excess deaths. We can't do anything about the fact that people die everyday. If they are no longer excess deaths and just a portion of the typical deaths who had covid then there has to be an "acceptable" number of deaths. I don't think we will get to 0 any time soon but we can't just put life on hold until something that might never go away.

Cancer and old age are probably killing more people each day but nothing seems to be been done about that either.

Death isn't the only consequence of this nasty disease. They're even finding lung scar tissue damage in asymptomatic cases.

life expectancy is at an all time high, pre-Covid, in the western world, and survival rates for most cancers are ever increasing.
Guess increased affluence, health care, lifestyle education and research is doing nothing.

Excess deaths have been running below the 5 year average for over a month.

The deaths with positive tests are far lower and look below all other types of death have magically gone way down...
Some of you need to get a grip.

I doubt more people have started overtaking in 30 zones because of the pandemic! I get your other points but that one's a bit odd.

If the majority of deaths aren't from hospitals, then they are likely from care homes. Is this a function of the definition used to record deaths after 28 days from the test, and therefore some of these deaths are due to other causes.
In my opinion, the method that has been used to unlock our society ie what for R to be just below 1 will result in a long tail off and we should get used to this for a very long time. If we had endured lock down for a few more weeks and get the R to 0.5 or less, would have brought this death count down far quicker and we would have returned to normal quickly.

Its not just about about the pandemic it was refernace to a point DCI Gene Hunt made regarding peopole will do as they please, rules dont apply to them

Though a driver did get pulled over by the police for speeding, his excuse was, 'Im trying to get away from the virus',

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

of course it's still around. We are too nation centric our bubble is the whole world..
if you look at the first graph the number of cases is still rising. The death total however is reasonably stable.
In Europe relaxation has led to a slight increase in cases I hope we can control this
But the only real control will come with successful vaccines, and only then when the bubble is vaccinated. But our bubble is quite large

Started a week earlier, extended it for two weeks more, we would have been in a far better position, in my opinion.
