It doesn't need more money being thrown at our 'weaknesses'

A definition of coaching lifted from the internet - 'Coaching aims to produce optimal performance and improvement at work. It focuses on specific skills and goals,'
In this instance the improvement and goal is to have more defensive awareness and be able to execute it.
I don't think just getting new players in , who we hope will be an improvement is the answer, they will need coaching as well and may end up being shown to be lacking, it usually just cross your fingers time and hope for the best.
Instead coach the players at the club who have been identified by our scouting system to have the necessary ability and identity where there is breakdown of in play awareness or communication.
I think we can automatically go up but we need to have longer runs of wins and occasional draws instead of play 2 or 3 then loose as we are might not even get us in the top 2 of the playoffs with that. I believe we have the players and manager to do it,an additional coach who has defensive renown may have to be brought in.

A number of the players are not good enough

Carrick, Woodgate, Scott and Gibson know this

This is a very strange post

Are you sure about Carrick and the others or are just guessing it ( making it up)

Are they not good enough because they lost at Leeds or is it something else, such as defensive mistakes, or a combination of things in your mind?

How do you get a ready to go player , they usually take a few weeks or months at best? Do you just hope they don't make mistakes in that time? Or are they just going to waltz in and end all our mistakes?
A strange post for you, yes , but I was hoping to get better replies than yours👍

It's also standard practice to identify weaknesses and improve them. It may be that our coaches aren't good enough. It's unlikely that we haven't spent 1000 hours in training playing out from the back under pressure and yet every game we give chances away due to that.

I think we can automatically go up
I admire the optimism. We’re miles away from automatic spots, and let’s be honest over 95 minutes we barely laid a glove on Leeds. They showed the will to win and found whatever it took to get the 3 points, something which we can’t seem to do when teams frustrate us. We’re now out of the play off positions again.

I’m sure because every single transfer window we will be active looking to improve (like every other club)

Would you like me to go through every player who isn’t good enough to get us promoted? That will take some time but to keep it simple current and historical evidence of performances and results

I'm not sure Carrick is good enough to coach a team to the premier league either
I agree

I want Carrick and the coaching team to succeed

But it feels to me that Carrick has hit a ceiling he is struggling to get through

His football philosophy and the players he has will equal some fantastic football but ultimately not success

Borges isnt quick enough, Barlaser and howson are not good enough as backups
Leeds had better players thats why they won
This basically. We have a great first 11 when everyone is fit but in the midfield in particular, we dont have enough depth.

Carrick and the coaching staff get a remarkably easy ride.

He needs to start winning much more consistently, or he will mess this season up.

Spot on. Far too easy a ride. Clueless at changing the way we play when it's not working, especially at home. Like for like subs. 2 yard goal kicks and back passes when a goal down and time running out. 1 man up front when a goal down and time running out. Midfielders who don't even attempt tackles that he carries on playing. Full backs that never stop the cross. Lots of basic stuff.

Its a bit of both for me, we can improve with the players we have, but the difference between say Leeds and us is not just about application. Our players were trying their best, but there is a difference in quality and often that comes down to budgets. If one club has a budget of £120m and another £30m its going to be a big battle for the £30m club to finish above them.

First half against Leeds their midfielders were picking the ball up 40 yards from our goal and driving straight through and into our box...that is just unacceptable, someone has to take the responsibility to get himself in a position to stop that happening.
I said it after a few games, we are one injury away from having a very average centre midfield and it's happened.

We are so passive out of possession at times, half arsed tackles, not getting tight enough, Morris is obviously a big miss, we are missing that type of midfielder and Howson has gone on a season too far.

We clearly have a defensive weakness as the stats don't lie and we are 8 goals off any of the teams currently in the play-off places. The truth is probably somewhere in between quality of players available and coaching/tactics, as we've seen in the past you can get a very defensive minded coach in who will stop the goals leaking but then it's very likely the goals will dry up too.

I hope that given we have Woodgate involved the management team are well aware of the issues and have a plan to address, guess we'll find out in the next few weeks!

How was our defensive performance when Woodgate was solely in charge and almost relegated us to League 1?

Yet Sheffield United are top and they barely laid a glove on us 🤷‍♂️ Burnley are third and we really should have beaten them on reflection.

We have a chance of going up. We might not but we have a chance.

Our squad probably cost a fraction of the Leeds squad, the player who scored their third goal cost over £30m, which is double our record signing. Our biggest signings on the pitch on Tuesday were all under £5m. Granted, Doak and Lath maybe worth approaching that if they develop as they are, but Doak’s on loan. Dan James, their key player cost around £25m and isn’t even a regular starter.
