It’s looking like a potential landslide victory for Joe Biden

The bigger issue, for me, is that , like brexit, we have a divided nation plus if the senate is R. Then biden won't be able to do as much to keep the radical side of his party happy.
Contrary to what trump etc said biden is very moderate.

Wont the electorate on the streets set the agenda?
Thinking of BLM / unemployment / healthcare / housing and other issues - like the effects of Covid.
The right in the USA cant just dig their heels in and send out the National Guard to beat up protesters every time the people question the status quo?

Morning from this side of the pond(y)

Just found an even better clip of Trump repeatedly proclaiming 306 electoral college votes as a landslide.

Did anyone see his speech last night? Pretty flat and his mention of “whichever administration” seemed like admission to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s as close to conceding as we get.

71 million voted for Trump, what do you do about this part of the electorate? Ignore them, demonise them as racist, put them on lists and cancel them.

The underlying problem in the US has not gone away because 4 million more voted for Biden than for Trump.

That I think is going to be the real problem for Biden. It’s difficult to assess how much of his support is made up of people it is impossible to logically reach with actions and argument. It appears that a substantial amount have little or no interest in moving away from seeing him as either some form of deity or the last bastion against socialism in the USA.

The Tories ignored the marginal brexit win . But you're correct, they aren't just going to go away nor are they all racist simpletons . Trump prob got about 60% of the vote where I live in NY. Alot of people are business owners who believe that he was better for them and from a tax point of view they are prob correct

Sorry but this is correct, read this (Trumpland) the other day which puts the problem in a nutshell. Interesting to see that Biden won in 477 counties in the US and those counties account for 70% of the economy. Trump won in 2497 counties which account for 29% of the economy. America is completely 'siloed'.

In large part I believe the problem stems from the destruction of manufacturing industry in the US, UK and many Western countries. Here in the UK we totally consumed the 'Service Economy' Kool-Aid. It always seemed to me that jobs at the bottom of the service economy were going to be minimum wage and it's only got worse. Costs are now cut to the bone and it's the workers who pay.

What angers me is that the people who have ridden this wave of disenchantment are not going to address the problem they're just using it to grab power and influence for their own ends. Does anybody really believe that a bunch of city traders, hedge fund managers, and old Etonians are the ones to 'level up' the country.(n)

Of course Trump had to go, he's a nut job but he or someone of his ilk will be back unless the underlying issues are attended to.

Fair points, people wanted cheaper stuff (and more of it) from the 80's on , plus what about labour costs?I often wonder if it really would have been economically viable to maintain an industrial sector in the west when the labour costs in other places are so much lower
