Is this the worst BORO team ever?

If you think this team is bad I remember the start of the 1982 season. Look at the home results and imagine how us fans felt at the time. Good job the internet was in its infancy.

Don’t forget TWICE this season we have gone 11 games without a win. TWICE

So was Agnews Premier Boro the worst?

We’ve only been in the third tier twice, both for only one season. The sides that got relegated for those seasons were the worst?

Or not?

did we not get beat at home by Blackburn the same season 1 - 5 Noel Brotherston tortured us ....

We have a Lidl team at fortnum and mason prices.
That’s the issue we’ve had crap sides before way worse than this but we didn’t spend almost a 50 million putting it together

Those sides that were way worse, what were their league positions?

English football has got much better over the last 30 or so years. 30 years ago signing the best players from Scotland would win you the league. Now it'll get you relegated. So I think we would probably have to get relegated to match the standard of the early 80s Boro teams.

I wouldn't say it's the worst Boro team. I think Warnock got it wrong today to be honest, and Woodgate got it wrong pretty much throughout his tenure. Think we have more now in terms of player quality than what we had during Strachans' reign.

Britt's and Fletcher are decent strikers at this level, but they need to play together.

Spence, Coulson, Fry, Roberts and Tav are all promising prospects.

Howson's always been a good player playing at this level, and McNair and Saville would get into most Championship clubs' side.

Think I only missed the Crystal Palace game out of that group of games
The Newcastle game seen debuts to Paul Ward & Tony Mowbray, with Bobby Murdochs instructions to Mogga, follow Kevin Keegan wherever he goes, which he did
Mick Channon scored his one & only goal for the Geordie when putting them 1-0 up, Darren Wood scored his 2nd Boro goal, his 1st of the season & 1st away goal

Impossible to compare really. I Remember the sides of 70's and 80's but they never cost the money that a side now costs.

Different game now but god weve had some dross over the years.

( Here they are now stepping into my imagination and keeping me awake at night)😥

The squad is a bad squad. We will probably finish the lowest since 1986.
This with a squad with a very large wage bill for this league and big fees paid.

I posted on another thread that 5 players trudged off tonight that have cost Boro over £36m in fees and over £25m in contracts. Assombolonga, Fletcher, Saville, McNair and Johnson.

The 82-83 relegation team under Murdoch was poor, but in the top flight.
In 42 league matches they never lost by more than 2 goals. They lost 19 league matches, but only 10 of them by 2 goals. That poor side never got spanked all season in 42 matches.

The team the following season 82-83 in Div 2 was woeful, yet still finished despite getting those 1-4,1-4,1-4,1-5 spankings.
83-84, 84-85 and 85-86 were all lacking, but this lot are every bit as bad and costing scandalously more.

Warnock has his work cut out.
The recruitment has been atrocious on every front.

Posters are referring to money used to assemble the current squad, fair point.

But let's remember that when we had poor teams in the 60's, mid 80's or whenever, the teams that were rolling us over, week in week out, or so it seemed, were also built on a shoestring.

It's so difficult to compare these different eras, yes we've spent some dosh but many others have also. Haven't Sheff Wed, Derby spent huge amounts?

Up the Boro.

Agree with all that indeedido. Bobby Murdoch had 3 big, big players sold beneath him, with lower wage players, though he did bring in Heine, the 1st half of the season done the damage, we didn't to too bad 2nd half
I don't rate Murdoch as our worst manager, all about opinions, as much as I don't blame Woody either

I remember the earlier mid 80s teams and I wasn’t as disappointed then as I am now . We all knew then we were skint after Amer’s fire sale after the sports centre debacle , BUT this team are breaking my heart insofar as knowing what the tos#ers cost .

I actually turned off my iPad towards the end because the match was painful to watch and I knew it would be typical for them to snatch it . Assombalonga trotting off all laughs was too much to bear .

Warnock was pulling his hair out at how we ballsed up basics . Like Swansea they looked like they never knew each other’s names .
