Is Johnson fit enough to stand trial?

I can’t understand the government approval ratings just now.

The NHS is criminally underequipped.

The lockdown only came when companies had started to send staff home anyway.

The furloughing is mostly only the prelude to being laid off or made redundant in the next couple of months anyway in my view.

Johnson and co do not appear to have any kind of lockdown exit plan.

Oh and by Rishis own honest admission, the economy is shattered.

What is there about the current government performance which is good?

Is it just because 45% voted them in just a few months back and can’t face admitting this lot are clueless?

So you are saying the only people who can add to a thread has to have an agreed opinion.

It seems 1984 is here.

There is a new clique of say 15 who follow each other around, liking each other and denigrating anyone with a counter view, I would say at uneducated guess, all Pro Corbyn and strong Leavers.

Strangely enough, it seems there is a new clique in here of around 5-8 posters who follow each other around looking through blue-tinted spectacles who steadfastly refuse to hold the government to account for their scandalous handling of almost every aspect of this pandemic.

I welcome differing opinions and will defend the right of anyone to express them on here, but it’s a pretty weak argument to ignore the content of the posts with the defence it’s a clique or a swipe at the poster.

I think any poster who can discuss a point with some kind of evidential basis or reasoned counter point will be shown the utmost respect, many a time I’ve revised my opinion on a subject through this board.

1984 was total control by the government and any dissent was crushed and whilst we live in a controlled society the fact that people like me can freely criticise or question those in charge is the opposite of Orwell’s dystopian nightmare.

Ad hominem means attacking the individual rather than the point they are making.

All this is not helping anything. Government were slow to react (maybe by 3 weeks),we also need to look at ourselves.
The Friday the lockdown was announced it was party night, idiots knowingly going out with this deadly virus kicking about.
The weekend later the sun comes out, so do the idiots, coughing in peoples faces, travelling hundreds of miles to visit 2nd
homes. You cant blame the government for our own actions we need to get a grip.

I never defended them, I almost fully agree with your sentiments.

But it's not a sin to disagree without being ridiculed. Maybe I am too old.

I have no idea what ad hominem means

I completely agree that its healthy to have an array of opinions and be able to debate them in an adult and respectful manner. Where you fell short in your post though was to suggest it is just the left leaning people on this board that name-calls and denigrates people with opposing views; there are members on both sides of the spectrum guilty of that. However, I (generally) see the left leaning members answering questions, giving evidence whereas the current right-leaning members of that little clique I spoke of absolutely ignore any suggestion the government have been woeful and resort to whataboutery or even just laughing emojis.

Perhaps the point is that the government shouldn't have 'advised' and should have perhaps 'enforced'? Especially given the fact the pubs were heaving that Friday night despite being advised to avoid them. The nation as a whole showed itself to be wholly irresponsible and that *should* have been the catalyst for the government to enforce the lockdown. They didn't, they just dithered and did nothing.

Yes, people need to take responsibility no one will disagree with that but why didn’t the government announce the pub closure at 9am on Friday morning and not give people the opportunity to be idiots, that way you could have averted the worst of the situation ? Small changes can make big differences, if you remove the opportunity for idiocy you neuter the idiots.

This is exactly what the government wanted, they made it obvious in every press conference, they wanted the responsibility to be on the public rather than themselves. Pubs should have been shut 2 weeks before they actually were.

The Times article is grim reading but is anyone actually surprised?

In Wuhan, Spain, France there were ‘no idiots’ because their governments acted in a different way.

As for Johnson and the Party ratings.
It is like being on an aeroplane and the captain announcing there are problems with the plane but I’ll get you out of this. You put your trust in the captain.
After your bumpy landing and the shock, you find the two people flying the plane were actually shagging at the time and in their passion knocked the plane into free fall.
You take a different view then.

On top of that the vast majority of the population will not be affected by death due to the virus or, indeed, the death of a loved one.
Good result then?

Trust me, there were (and are) idiots in Spain. However they are being fined and in some cases jailed. This has reduced the number of them leaving their homes. Or moving between homes. It has not stopped it completely.

.
AM I did post that it should of happened 3 weeks earlier, maybe we would a lot closer to getting out of this situation.
Some people are still not taking the advice.
